Watchable but unremarkable. Could have been the next instalment in the Cloverfield franchise.

If they bleed, and you can kill them with a crappy shotgun, why hadn't the world's armies dealt with the aliens?

6.5Hz out of 10 decibels.
My theory:

Because they hadn't sussed they are weakened by a certain frequency first. Bit like Superman and kryptonite - hand him some kryptonite and punch him in the face and it'll hurt him, but you can't do it without it ?

Looking on IMDb suggests the film company thought the same and were going to make it Cloverfield 4 - the writers didn't want this and it ended up being a standalone film.

I liked and it was really well done. The bad guys were a bit same-old though.

That was addressed throughout the film:
...the newspaper articles in the background often referred to their armour being able to withstand bombs and bullets. Given that, I was hoping for a more creative solution than the tedious solution to every problem = guns

Straight to streaming is becoming the new Straight to DVD, but I think it's odd Netflix would dilute their brand to push a couple of crap films a year they got on the cheap when they turned out to be turkeys at the same time they spending $150m to produce 'The Irishman' with a cast and crew so brilliant that they'd have to work tireless day and night to screw it up.
I think that's exactly the problem, the 'Netflix Original' label goes on anything and everything they have as an exclusive, whether that be something specifically produced by and for Netflix (Bird Box), something they've bought from a studio that wasn't deemed worthy of a theatrical release (Spectre, Annihilation and so on) or films they've won in conventional distribution bids (Roma).

A very odd strategy as quality can be all over the place. I guess they don't care too much as long as they are filling their service with hours and hours of content that they own, and it seems to be working looking at subscriber numbers.

I suffered to the end last night, my god what a weird movie - was the producer schizophrenic?

Mads Mikkelsen and the love interest play it straight, the baddies play it like a cartoon.

The fights are ridiculous, people struggle on after 3 bullets to the chest, bodies are made of lead such that bullets don't pass through them

16% from RT is about right, not sure what drugs the IMDB voters were taking but they must have been decent

2/10

(are "Netflix exclusive" or "Sky exclusive" now euphemisms for st movie?)
My partner and I loved it! It helps that Mads is one of my favourite actors, and he did carry the film, but it was different, OTT in places, uncomfortable in places, great film and nice to watch something with no PC motives whatsoever!

Aquaman

Went into this with high expectations having read some reviews.

Boy were they wrong.

What a load of CGI bks.

I'd generously give it 3/10.

I can't remember the last film I saw with that much computer generated imagery - to be expected as it's set underwater but jesus it was in your face and not even done particularly well.

And yet it's on track to be DC's biggest ever revenue spinner.

Point Of Order: I grew up reading the comics and don't remember Aquaman being almost as invincible as Superman.

Wonder Woman was so much better.
Watched it Sat night with my 12 year old - both thought it was rubbish. EVERY aspect was weak. Cant recall last film I paid to see that was that bad......probably On Deadly Ground (but at least Steven solves bar based bigotry in that one)
Another downvote (is that a word? hehe ) for aquaman here.

Thought it was pretty poor, I can't believe how well it's done commercially. 5/20,000 leagues.

That's a classic scene in On Deadly Ground btw.

It was 2–1 against me when my daughter and my wife chose to watch Overboard.

A nontypical romcom which I started to watch with them with a view of doing something else shortly after....
It was far better than the reviews suggest with plenty of belly laughs and held my attention to the end.

For anyone vaguely interested. It all hinges around an obnoxious rich guy who loses his memory and is told that he is the husband of a working mother who he refused to pay for work done. Much comedy as he is persuaded that he is actually a builder of sorts, digging swimming pools etc and hilarity commences.

You need to watch the original with Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn - the one you watched is yet another lazy gender swap copy of a much better film.

Thanks for that Chris. I didn't know this existed. Coincidently I said to my wife that this would be a classic part for Goldie Hawn if it were an older film, little did I realise!

I will look it up and save it for a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Here's an old one from the Boys Own Adventure Book

Rogue Male starring Peter o'Toole 1976.

In my book a good 7 Stiff upper lips / 10 Nazi killers, and would score higher if the print was better quality. Well worth a watch.

A full length film discovered on You Tube ( dare I say while browsing clips of W C Fields movies when I literally PMSL ! )
Yes, I will admit to eclectic tastes.

Polar . Should’ve been good. Was no John Wick. More of a comedy perhaps. I think Netflix are dropping the ball with some of these recent releases.

I suppose the clue was in having Matt Lucas as the bad guy.

indeed - I read on the NetFlix thread that this was meant to be good. WTactualF? Total dogwk (I did chuckle at the puppy TBH) and 2/10 sums it up nicely.

The Mule - a slow film but both Mrs Iroc and I really enjoyed this. I guess you could call it a study in regret and wasted opportunities.

Polar.

God damn some of you are hard to please. Absolutely loved it. Thoroughly entertaining all the way through.

8/10 for me.

No it’s not john wick. It’s based on a graphic novel so some of the cheesy hitmen I could live with.

He is cool as duck and vivien the blonde is stunning.

What do you want a free blowjob with every film you download. Holy hell. Looking forward to the second one.

Now I want even more to live in Montana and fish and raise rabbits.

Edit I laughed out loud at the school kids scene. Didn’t see that twist coming which was a nice surprise too.

Edit again, I’m still laughing thinking about it. I had a dog once lol.

No idea what to think about this, I'm not even sure if I enjoyed it or not. Some great scenes, shocking moments and fantastic performances, but it's all over the place in style and tone (as The Big Short was, but it really worked there) and could easily have started at the first bit of end credits to knock an hour off.

At the point where they ran the false credits, one bloke in my cinema stood up and started to leave. I don't think he was very bright. biggrin

It was a decent enough film, but i can see how it could throw people and feel very disjointed, especially if you weren't around and politically engaged at the time. His explanation about doing the crap jobs (foreign policy and security etc.) so Bush Junior didn't have to was very funny.

The restaurant menu was my favourite bit (with Alfred Molina in an uncredited cameo).

I watched Area 51 the other night, thought it might be good, but it was nothing special. I'm not a big fan on that style of filming, where it's largely camcorder-style shaky footage (there's probably a proper name for it). Lots of bits that seemed totally implausible, such as them all clomping around the secret government facility like a herd of elephants when they're supposed to be trying not to get discovered. Breaking in seemed remarkably easy, too.

I watched The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society at the cinema.
Not really my genre (I prefer a bit of action!), but great cinematography & good acting.
Period dress, cars, backdrops of London after WW2 bombings - all excellent.
I watched this based on a lot of positive reviews and I have to agree. It's a bit of a love story but there's enough in the plot to keep you interested and it definitely has the all important feel good factor.

Nine baked potatoes out of ten.
