Darkest Hour - a good film with a standout performance.

Could have been better as a story telling exercise but Oldman pulled you in early on and didn't let go until the end.

Still made you aware of the peril Western Europe was in at the time.

Loved Ben Mandelsohn's 'Bertie', but I think he's one of the best actors on the planet at the moment.

Marvel CInematic UNiverse (not even including the other Marvel stuff like Spider-Man and X-Men) has been the biggest for years now.
Almost the next two combined

1 Marvel Cinematic Universe film $14,297,893,686
2 Star Wars film $8,846,532,331
3 J. K. Rowling's Wizarding World $8,539,253,704
4 James Bond $7,040,275,645
5 J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth $5,884,488,087
6 The Fast and the Furious $5,134,895,344
7 X-Men $4,996,632,006
8 Batman $4,995,812,576
9 Spider-Man $4,843,426,428
is that inflation adjusted? (thinking the JB films especially)

Fast and Furious? Jesus wept

It's actually not, the Craig Bond's have come along in the billion times. Skyfall is a billion dollar film and the mess of Spectre is 880 million.

Game Night.

A cracking little black comedy/mini adventure/who done it.

A great storyline, nicely thought out characters and a well acted piece of entertainment.

Yes, you could pick holes in the plot but who cares when a lightweight film is executed as good as this.

One part had me in tears of laughter in the cinema. Both Mrs phazed and I thoroughly enjoyed it, perfect Monday night entertainment!

8/10, (for enjoyment and entertainment)
We've just come back from watching this tonight. Agree with all this. Not the greatest film ever made and I went in trepidation that it looked quite good in the trailer (often the kiss of death!!).

Great script, Jason Bateman has that character nailed down and has done for years, love watching him normally and this film gave him something to get his teeth into. Lots of little throw away lines which were quite witty. Also some laugh out loud proper belly laugh moments. Lots of laughter in the auditorium. Yes the plot doesn't stand up to the collander test but who cares? It's just a fun film. I've seen waaay too many films lately where I've persevered to the end and wondered why tf I'd bothered. You can do a lot worse than watch this.

The Take AKA Bastille day ,apparently watched it on CH4 tonight.

Tosh.

It seemed all the American parts were taken by Brits ,Idris Elba in lead actor and Kelly Reilly in supporting role.
Just watched it,Elba's accent was a bit hit n mess but I thoroughly enjoyed the film
I looked at Rotten Tomatoes before I started watching it and feared the worse. I gave it a chance and it turned out to be better than expected. The next night I watched Baby Driver expecting it to be good and guess what? Disappointed. Can't see what all the fuss was about frankly.

A Bad Day at the Cut 7/10

An Ulster farmer finds his aged mother murdered and he sets out to sort out the killers. Lots of twists, things don't appear to be explained until the end and you can count on the northern Irish knowing how to dish out simmering revenge with a grudge dating back many years.
Reminded me a bit like Dead Mans Shoes.

makes quite a difference to not adjust

Thunderball released in 1965 made $64M in US alone is $690M adjusted for inflation!!

Wouldn't even cover the advertising space now.

The Purge

hmmm, I've seen a sequel, which was better, but as a premise, this sort of dystopian future USA of which there are bizarrely loads of franchises currently, it's easily the best and most logical set up.
The film itself, it drew me in, then got flabby and boring and then drew me in again, ultimately, it was pretty decent. Great ending. Non Hollywood.

Guilty of doing a bit of catch up after coming back from a few days away, but as weĺl as the above, also watched

...In Order of Disappearance...on bbc4 iPlayer. 8/10

A sub titled film about a norwegian snow plough driver who finds out his son was murdered due to a drugs mix up and he sets out to put the world to rights taking out both Swedish and Albanian drug gangs who had divided up the town's business. A high body count with some interludes of humour slipped in.

I don't mind the feast of sub titled movies appearing on TV and this is right up there.

Quite enjoyed this. Dark Norwegian humour so pitch black. Ending was a genuine WTF moment!

Not sure if this has been covered, but watched "Look who's back" last night.
Interesting concept with Hitler time travelling to 2014, it's a German film, sort of shows how he got such a following the first time around, quite bravery to make as well.

I did watch the first 20 mins some time ago and ran out of time.

May continue one day but it is an amusing concept!

Ah, must watch this - I read the book - funny and disturbing in equal measure.

The film isn't a patch on the book; even changes some of the original without any obvious reason.

The book is one of the most hilarious I've read for years, though having a basic knowledge of German life helps for the some of the subtleties.

Wow....I’d like to see this.

When you look at the 2010s though, it has some striking similarities to the climate of the 1930s.

Agreed, I enjoyed both but the book is seriously funny.
