Dog Soliders.

Not seen since it came out and loved it then. Other half is away so me and my 3 boys watched it. (18,16,12)

Despite the usual protests of "this is old" and "its not even in 1080p" they were soon hooked. As expected, Spoon in the kitchen boxing for his life was a highlight.

In the words of Loaded magazine.....A bh of a Werewolf Movie!

And not a CGI in sight!!!!!
Top bks!

Free Solo
Documentary about a young chap planning to climb El Capitan without ropes. Im not particularly bothered by heights, but this was tough viewing, and the last 30 mins was excruciating - talk about sweaty palms! (us, not him)

Stalker (1979)
Russian, subtitled, 2.5 hour long, part B&W/part colour film about a man (the "stalker") guiding two other blokes through "the zone" - a district where a strange (alien?) force has taken hold. In the centre of the zone is a room where, apparently, your innermost wishes are made real.
I'll be honest, I didn't understand this at all.

A Boy & His Dog (1975)
The boy is a very young Don Johnson, and his dog is super-intelligent (and savagely witty) and together they communicate telepathically - the dogs main ability is a sort of "lady-radar", as young Don is desperate to do some grown-up cuddles, and the dog can detect any skirt nearby. Mind you, there are other bands of horny men roaming the post-apocalyptic landscape, so wimmin are in short supply. Don thinks all his Christmases have come at once when he meets a girl who he doesn't need to rape (no, really) and she takes him to a secret underground civilisation who are looking for a new young man to impregnate their women. Its not quite as good as he hoped, though.
Could only really recommend this if you are a fan of the Fallout computer games, as I think this must have inspired them greatly (he even refers to his dog as "dogmeat" at one point), but otherwise its full of bad acting, and abhorrent characters.

The Returned (2013)
Technically a zombie movie, but very little in the way of zombies acting eating brains etc - rather its about a post-zombie epidemic where the infected are able to live a normal life using ant-viral drugs daily - but the supply of the anti-virals is about to run out. Watchable, with a bleak ending.

Is that anything to do with or a version of the French TV series Les Revenants/The Returned ?

I watched Oblivion last night (the Tom Cruise sci-fi vehicle thing), which is currently available on Amazon Prime.

I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it was beautifully shot and had some nice aesthetics. On the other hand, the plot was rather thin and cheesy, and also unrealistic (The plan to destroy the alien space ship was laughable, and had so many unnecessary opportunities for failure).

Overall, it was ok.

I wondered that myself - as I have the TV series downloaded but have yet to get round to watching it. But from the IMDB synopsis, it sounds like in the TV series people who have died just seemingly "reappear" and rejoin society, rather than it being anything to do with zombies as such.

Check out Dawn Wall on netflix - even better in many ways (mainly because Alex Honold is a bit of a weirdo and hard to like)

I really enjoyed Dawn Wall and the 'back story' element..

..but hearing about Free Solo sounds even more bonkers - I'll give that a try.

ETA: I hate heights now I'm older (don't know why) and have no interest in climbing - but Dawn Wall held my attention pretty well.

Re a boy and his dog. I think that’s the point that they are all abhorrent. People say the first thing that runs out at the apocalypse is petrol.

Nah it’s PC.

One of my favourite cult films

Shame it didn’t work out for him Still she had good taste.

Perfect Skin (2018)

Concept of the film was nothing new but in tandem with being poorly executed in reality led to disaapointment

Lead was rather creepy - which works

5/10

I'll Be Me

Grammy winning documentary about Glen Campbell's last tour.

Very, very powerful film on the effects of alzheimers on this true musical legend.

A reminder that he didn't just sing some of the most iconic songs of the 60's and 70's but also of what an astonishing guitar player he was.

His daughter Ashley seems to be a very talented young lady too.

Border

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt5501104/

Nominated for quite a few awards (inc oscar). Very surreal yet normal euro-scandi fare.

Worth a watch as something which is a complete antithesis to the Hollywood produced corporate garbage

10/10 imo

I look forward to that.

I recall listening to the radio some years ago and the lead singer of some heavy rock band, (can't remember who) was being interviewed.

When asked what his all time favourite song he said, don't laugh, Wichita Linesman by Glen Cambell! Made me smile.

Guns at Batasi on Film 4

Lost count how many times I've seen this film and never get bored of it.

The Girl in the Spiders Web

I'll start by saying that I've never read the book so I neither know nor care if the film does it justice.

I had avoided this film initially as even the better reviews seemed 'Lukewarm' at best. Then it popped up for a £1.99 rental on Amazon so I gave it a go.

I was pleasantly surprised by what turned out to be a perfectly serviceable action thriller. Claire Foy does a pretty decent job and is quite believable as Lisbeth, the streetwise, hardnosed hacker character and, as I have a bit of a crush on her anyway, I was unlikely not to enjoy her performance,

Whilst it was no Bourne identity, the film felt well paced and the story was enough to keep my brain engaged and interested throughout.

I'll give it a 7/10

Probably my favourite ever movie. Dark, funny and menacing. Genius dialogue. You just know Meadows has spent time in low level drug dealers council flats listening to scrotes talking about using Pot Noodle packaging as cups and Al Fresco sex. biggrin

I've just watched Red Dragon.
fk me! What an absolutely awful, clichéd, badly acted pile of ste!

I can't believe such a fantastic bunch of actors could produce something so awful.
Ed Norton is particularly dreadful and he's one of my favourite actors.

It's even more of a travesty given that Manhunter is an incredible film with fantastic performances from William Peterson and the rest of the cast.
