I'd also recommend About Schmidt . Another great performance in that one.
Terms of endearment is one of his best films, a great film allround.

Watched Moneyball last night; been on my watch-list for years but only just got around to it; very enjoyable.

Love Jack. SO many great performances, and apparently an amazing fella too.

As Good As It Gets
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Batman
Chinatown
Broadcast News
Mars Attacks!
He's an extremely versatile actor, and Mervin in As Good As it Gets is a great performance and a great film, it's so likeble. Think, he can be loopy as the Joker, scary as Johnny in the shining, unhinged in the aforementioned AGAIG's, and downright unlikable but still very funny AF in Anger Management. He convinces in all his roles. Another actor successful of this IMO is Johnny Depp. I hope that, what I think, is Amber Heard lying doesn't finish him off. Funny that she has previous for domestic abuse, whilst he has none.
I'd also recommend About Schmidt . Another great performance in that one.
Easy Rider is worth a watch for a bit of early Jack.

Dr Strange
I'm a bit out of the loop on MCU films - the last one I saw was Age of Ultron. But this was on telly recently and I happened to record it, and watched it tonight.
I came into it with no knowledge or expectations - the most I knew about the character was that he does magic or somesuch.
Anyway, it was quite enjoyable, and raised a chuckle in places (not least the antics of the cape), although I thought it fell a little flat at the end.

I thought it was a bit flat all round, but definitely had it's moments. I did think the ending was the best thing however, as it was something different.

Two films yesterday evening,

American Psycho

Was really enjoying it until the end, where it was a 'they're not going to end it like that' moment for me. I'm still a little confused as to what exactly went on!

Bright

Heard mixed reviews but thought I'd give it a go anyway. Lord of Rings meets Training Day, pretty much sums it up. It was OK actually, I quite enjoyed it and would probably watch more stuff in this 'world'. A little backstory etc. would have been nice. Would have made an interesting series rather than movie.

My understanding was in the book he was the real deal but in the film it was all a fantasy. I prefer the film version, the book was just sick.

Very strange, so it was fantasy but Batemen thought it was real? I guess that is all part of the crazy/psychopath thing, but I really wasn't expecting it, I just figured it was all happening although it did seem odd he was getting away with it!

My wife choose the film tonight.

Wine Country.

In the name of all that is holy, and in the spirit of true PistonHeads brotherhood DO NOT WATCH THIS FILM.
beerbeer
And if you must watch a film about winetasting, watch Sideways instead. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0375063/

Good film that.

Absolutely!

Watched it when it first came out and watched again last year.

Great score, story and period acting, iyswim.

Probably enjoyed it more last year as it took me back to my youth........

A must retro see imo.

Watched 2001 today. Excellent film. Tense.

Led me on a bit of a wiki read. Read all the pages on then books (I've only read the original novel). SO Dave Bowman.
Did he ascend or was the 'new' version a copy?

On one side, rejoice! There's a new Iron Sky out. On the other side, it pains me to report that no matter how great the combo of Nazis! With dinosaurs! On the moon! sounds, the sequel just isn't as good as the original.

It's mostly the script. There are some good jokes and some excellent sight gags, but nowhere near enough. A lot of it is already outdated - apparently there were many production delays and there is a general whiff of 2012. The script will not age well.

On the other other side, it will be the only film with Nazis on the moon that you will see this year, so I'm scoring it 7 Himmlers / 10 Goerings, but really there are one to two Himmlers in there for nostalgia and a sense of what could have been.

Ghost in the Shell, waste of time. Another soulless, chop-socky borefest.

I was really disappointed by Iron Sky, just didn't find it funny at all though I really liked In the Pirkinning.

I'm really surprised by that, as you and I are so frequently in agreement. I thought it had a lot of flaws, not least that it dumbed down a lot of the source material into generic Hollywood cliche, but still managed to capture a lot of the feel and world-building of it. I also felt that they had genuine reverence and respect for the source material, despite the aforementioned dumbing down.

I think half the problem with Iron Sky is that it didn't know what it wanted to be - comedy, semi-serious sci-fi, homage, tongue-in-cheek b-movie, and seemed to wildly oscillate between them. I'd rather they had played it "straight-faced with a knowing wink" for the whole film and ditched the outright comedy as those bits frequently missed the mark.

Where did you see it? I really enjoyed the first one (there's a bit of a cult following among my colleagues here in Germany!) and have been waiting for The Coming Race for years.

Is on Amazon video (UK). Think you can buy it on disc too.

Jaws.

For the umpteenth time, with the final third the most thrilling of endings. Always think of Bruce the fake shark and all the problems they had during production. With that in mind an amazing movie.

The 'land' scenes were shot in March, so greenery had to be attached to trees to replicate summer.
