The Wedding Guest - Dev Patel is a guest an arranged marriage in Pakistan, but is carrying several passports, duct tape and a couple of handguns. Directed by Michael Winterbottom.

The journey the film takes is more interesting than the 'crashy bangy' route the above suggests, but I agree with the reviews that it ran out of steam a bit by the end - 7/10

Kill Bill Vol. 1 on Film4 tonight.

Superb film, one of my faves, it got the thumbs up from my son too. Wifey went to bed because "it's ridiculous" hehe

A crazy 88/10
One of my favourites too. Can't wait to show it to my son. Might be a couple of years yet though, he is only 12.

9.79* tells the fascinating story of the controversial 100 metre race at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, where the scandalous tale of illegal substance abuse changed the world of athletics forever.

7/10 not bad interesting.

We've had the past week off so had plenty of time to watch movies.

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom (own digital copy)

Very enjoyable and of course ridiculously silly. I love these films. We watched the original 26 year old film straight after and it stands up very well today. Didn't realise "Rexy" is the same T-Rex that appears in the 1993 film. We're looking forward to the third JW film in 2021.

Hobbs and Shaw

Stupid brainless action, as expected not really focused on cars but it was enjoyable if totally unoriginal.

Spiderman Homecoming (Netflix)

Surprisingly very enjoyable, probably the best Spiderman film I've seen.

Platoon (Netflix)

Harrowing, gritty and pretty bloody disturbing. Great film though.

Ant Man (Netflix)

Got a third of the way through and switched off. I may have improved but we were too bored to care.

Cold in July

Started off a bit bland, you think you know what's going to happen, averagely acted and it was touch and go whether I continued.
A few twist in the story held my attention to the end but there was definitely a few wtf moments!

The general premise, husband shoots intruder dead, townsfolk happy as another lowlife bites the dust . Lowlife's father comes to town seeking revenge and off the story goes ....... in simple terms biggrin

Worth a watch I certainly better than a load of other tripe on the box but not one that I would watch again.

6.8/10
Watched this based on your post and agree with it 100%

The Lion King in 4D

Went to the 4D Odeon in E Didsbury at the weekend. I've never experienced 4D before, and don't really like 3D that much.

It was really good fun, but it's one of those things that once you've done it, you've done it. If Top Gun 2 comes in 4D I'll definitely seeing that!

The film - as others have said it's pretty good but lacks the charm of the original, worth a watch though.

Film - 6/10 4D Experience - 8/10
What the frick is 4D?
No clue but it sounds like an excuse to add 50% to the price of the ticket.

Haven't seen this in many years. I'd forgotten just how silly and delightfully kitsch it is.

Love the outfits too. cloud9

I can see how it influenced The Fifth Element (one of my favourite films) and also the "non physical sex" thing in Demolition Man.

Really interesting film. Don’t think too much about specifics of how this train works.

well done Chris yeah great everybody's dead now you used to eat babies but you killed everyone just because a few got treated badly, and people lost arms now and again suck it up smile

Saw this last year. Great storyline if not incredibly stupid but I aren’t a lot of them!

Was really looking forward to it and glad I watched it but was a little disappointing.

That said, I probably gave it a 7.2/10

It’s an immersive experience with moving seats and additional effects like water spray.
You can create a similar effect at home by watching the film from inside a washing machine on spin cycle.

Is Ben Johnston the only baddie? Does it mention Carl Lewis was also hepped to the gills on schizzle?

Stratton, on Film4 the other night. I didn't think much of it* - stereotypical posh-boy MI6 man, incredibly poor car chase where a Range Rover repeatedly struggles to get past a double-decker bus and then turns over for no apparent reason at the end, and the accent on the woman in charge of the crack unit (which might have been the SBS, or perhaps not, I lost track) was awful.

(* I must admit I spent a lot of the film outraged because I mistakenly thought SBS didn't stand for Special Boat Service, and was berating the film makers for not checking properly.) But it was awful for all sorts of other reasons.

One of those rare films I've seen that I genuinely have no idea if I enjoyed or not, so would find impossible to grade.

I watched Cliffhanger last night, solid 90's action movie with some lovely scenery and amazing stunts. Loses points for John Lithgow's awful English accent though, and some poor sound design (such as using generic punching sound effects, which once you notice you can never un-hear).

Indeed. It's like the Willhelm Scream and that whip sound from the Doom video game. Both over-used to the point of cliché such that they grate whenever you hear them.

Edit: By "Doom whip sound" it seems I mean the dsbospit sound. Also known as "The Icon of Sin cube-spit".
For example https://youtu.be/ONRQ1w1j254

Yes that, plus I was completely distracted by tilda Swinton hamming it up doing her best Mrs tweedy impression.
I had to look up who was playing her.

Whole thing was kinda stupid with some great elements and style but utterly inconsistent which I think was done on purpose or not. Not sure if it was genius or crap.

But I sort of enjoyed it.

Saw Blinded By The Light yesterday. A feel good film with a young British Pakistani lad living in Luton in the 80's discovering the music of Bruce Springsteen and how he interweaves the lyrics in to his life and his ambition to be a writer. Good performances from a decent cast including Hayley Atwell, Sally Phillips and Rob Brydon. I enjoyed it but then I am big Springsteen fan anyway. 7/10

Transformers 5
wow, who woulda thunk they could outdo themselves from 4?
I think they must hire the opposite of a continuity bod, to actively make sure no continuity is followed and nothing makes sense.

Shazam!

Quite a good fun, brain out, don't overthink it superhero origin story with one or two genuine laugh out loud moments thrown in. It kind of became a bit run of the mill towards the end but, overall an entertaining way to spend a couple of hours. 7/10

Vigilante

Olivia Wilde as a wife who escaped her abusive husband and re-invents herself as a vigilante who helps others in abusive relationships get out.

A film with unrealised potential. Wilde is great in the title role but, the pacing was too slow for me. The inevitable showdown that is built up over the second half of the film, was really anti-climactic when it arrived. 4/10

Pain and Glory (Dolor y gloria) - A Spanish film by Pedro Almodóvar with Antonio Banderas and Penélope Cruz about a film director in decline and suffering from mental and physical ailments, looks back over their life.

I and the other 9 people in the otherwise empty 250 seat cinema enjoyed it, but I suspect not for everyone - 8/10
