Excellent, love the Guard! Also really like ALex Skarsgård (bene a fan of his soft tones since True Blood). Wasn't excited with Cavalry (like I was the Guard) but I wanna see more of that directors work.
Then you should like this. Well worth checking out. It’s not perfect. I don’t think penna character fit too well and some of his lines were a bit off.

8.5/10 for me.

After The Sunset

Didn't know this film existed. From 2004 with Pierce Brosnan, Salma Hayek and Woody Harrelson.

A cops and robbers type of thing set after the main heists of the robber's career.

Apparently a failure commercially and critically, IMO it had elements of good writing here and there against a backdrop of meh. Though the pacing was easygoing, with a few funny moments, the story was dull, even with a very small, somewhat predictable twist at the end.

6.5 Cocktails out of 10 Caribbean Islands. The half point is awarded on account of SH's summer dresses and bikinis.

A few this week, a bit older in recent terms but definitely some future classics:

Hell or High Water - love it, Jeff Bridges, gas station scene with the lime green Camero was splendid.

Inside Llewyn Davis - Oscar Isaacs & Coen Bros classic

Blue Ruin - really good and totally unexpected, probably my favourite of the week

Nebraska - Bruce Dern, (aka ‘Burbs guy) definitely a masterpiece (imo)..

I watched Hobbs and shaw last night.

I wasn't expecting to like it to be fair as it's not my sort of thing but I had a spare couple of hours and wanted brain out action movie. It was even worse than I was expecting. Wow, what a steaming pile of poo. I suspect even fans of the Fast and Furious franchise less believable plots would struggle with this one.
Me and the missus went, as fans of F&F. It was not at all what we were expecting but it was brilliant and funny. I didnt fall asleep (something I am known for doing).

I'd give it a solid 8/10.
Just watched it. Not seen any F&F so didn't know what to expect. It's a very silly brain out film and doesn't take itself seriously at all. I really liked it. hehe

Gremlins. In the cinema for 35 year anniversary. Still really really good, and the puppets/animation still stand up now. CGI Gremlins wouldn't work.

Couldn’t find blue ruin so watched hell or high water.

What’s going on, not like their other films that was pretty much a happy ending.

Shame about the full auto AR and the sherif taking the shot like that. Otherwise interesting film. Much preferred wind River.

Saw it in CINERAMA IN Soho on release. I've only got Mickey Rooney from the picture, who are the others?

Jonathan Winters is the guy in the baseball cap. Sid Caesar is the chap in the grey jacket. The great Ethel Merman is the older lady. Milton Berle is the guy next to Mickey Rooney and the other younger lady is Edie Adams. I always remember this film being shown every year around Christmas Time. I must have seen it at least 20 times but still enjoy it.

It also had Buster Keaton, Jerry Lewis and the three stooges in blink and you miss them spots, and many more.
Just out of shot is Buddy Hacket who delivers that killer line, drop dead.' biggrin

Yep, saw this at the cinema on its release and loved it.

As said before, watched it many times afterwards, usually round the Christmas time, always was a treat!

Once upon a time in Hollywood.

The plot is as thin as a thin thing, but the rest of it is a joy - especially if you are +/- the same age as Tarantino (and me) and grew up with 1960's yank TV and film.

Plot aside, 7.5 L.A's / 10

Once upon a time in Hollywood.

Seems like a circle jerk for Tarantino, didn't enjoy it, boring, tedious and doesn't really go anywhere

i find it takes a few watches to get them, but i felt like it was just QT doing a film about film techniques and forgot about the story having to work. the acting is good, and the bruce lee scene is probably best bit of the film, but it is just really dull.

IMDB give it 7.9/10 (more than I did), but I did say you had to be old enough to 'get it'.

You'll (completely understandably) not get it unless you watched Hollywood in the 1960s. Annoying I know, but there are SO many in- jokes. If you weren't laughing, you may well have missed the 1960's references that us old hippy folk got wink
