im still watching the " Irishman" on Netflix. So far its taken me two weeks.
I found it tedious, overlong, and De Niro's performance was poor in my opinion, but I enjoyed Pacino, and Pesci was nuanced.
as for all the lauded "making them look young" new tech I thought it looked pretty weird, like everyone had been blurred and photoshopped

eek

I'd never realised & I love those two films (coincidentally both were made in 1985).

He's also in Innerspace (1987) which is quality.

We are talking about the same, "Oldboy" film aren't we?

The film where the guy eats a live baby octopus, there is a surreal moment in a train with a giant ant and he has a fight with about 15 guys in a corridor and walks away with them all lying injured on the floor?

If so, I stand by my previous comments.
Who was in it?

No idea, it’s Korean and subtitled. It is on prime at the moment.

Knives Out

A very average use of a couple of hours. Absolutely fine if you haven’t got anything better to do. Not offensive, not totally boring, just a whodunnit with a lot of well-known actors in it.

Was on a couple of long haul flights, so watched a few:

Ad Astra
Actually thought it was pretty cool. Disappointing ending though.

Toy Story 4
Didn't quite feel on par with the others, but still good. Spoke to an older audience I think. Actually got quite emotional with the little girl going off to school for the first time... sleep deprivation and wine contributed I think lol.

Groundhog Day
Proper classic this. Absolutely brilliant.

The Lion King (new one)
Essentially scene for scene remake of the original, but live action. Was going on Safari, so thought it would be a good one to watch smile Really enjoyed it. The animals are very realistic (apart from talking obviously).

I was a bit on the fence on this one - the animals were so realistic that they could not really put across emotion or expression outside of what said animal could realistically do, hence why i do prefer the animated version - i think if they had not stuck to being so realistic on the animals it would have been better.

Midnight Express Somehow this one had passed me by. It might have been shocking in its time but I don't think it's aged well.

Interesting, I thought it was significantly more than 'just a whodunnit'. Loads of layers and things to say. Technically awesome as well, as all Johnson's films are.

meh - didnt really hit me as a big impacting movie , run of the mill for me tbh, until the last few mins of horrific home video/phone video - i thought it lacked a chemistry between the cast and some of the directional choices made it quite strange (the fading face shots at the speech for example)

I suppose so, I was probably being a bit harsh. Just not what I would make a point of going to see at the cinema, (dragged along by my wife).

Yes, I agree it is accomplished and again I suppose if you compare it to the Miss Marples and other similar whodunnits it was above them.

I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure. Revised to 7/10

Leon - Directors Cut (1994)
Blu-ray

Unpleasant circumstances bring hired gun & errant teen together until history catches up.

Loved this when it came out at the cinema, first time I've watched for years. Jean Reno cool, Portman's debut, Oldman full-ham. Nostalgia NYC with swarms of boxy Caprice's, Diplomat's & LTD's. Protagonists relationship still challenging.

Memento (2000)
iPlayer

Former insurance investigator, hampered by amnesia & misdirection, tries to track down his wife's killer.

Forgot how good this is. Guy Pearce superb, strongly supported by a Jag XK8 cab.

Quite.

Reminds me of a really near-the-knuckle gag by Gary Delaney or possibly Jimmy Carr, along the lines of
"My wife caught me masturbating over Natalie Portman. She said she wouldn't have minded so much only I was watching Leon". eek

Never saw split but not sure I needed to.

Really enjoyed this. Remember enough about unbreakable to know what was going on think it tied it all up nicely
Ridiculous obviously people had to act oddly for it all to work but I can forgive that.

Remake of Jacob's Ladder on Sky.

Everything that made the Tim Robbins original so good was removed.

Why do they feel the need to do this? frown

Diago Maradona -

Lots of footy action and 95% subtitles.......

Fell asleep 20 minutes from the end which is uncommon for me so...although it was ok it was certainly no Amy or Senna.
