Watched Terminator Dark Fate over the weekend.

Expectations not too high as I'd seen it discussed here previously.

I found the first half fantastic and a worthy follow up to T2.

The second half, however, seemed to get a little carried away to say the least. It felt somewhere between Fast and Furious and the Peter/Chicken fights from Family Guy.

What's the chances of falling from the back of a C5 in a Hummer, and landing ontop of a dam wall...

First half 9/10. By the end 6/10

Saving private Ryan

Still fresh after all these years.

Never realised the bloke that stabbed the jewish bloke at the end wasn't steam boat willie..
I never accepted that the guy who shot Tom Hanks at then end wasn't Jaap Stam

Brooklyn

Lovely little Friday night film headed by Bill Murray.

Lots of laughs as he takes a miserable shine to the child next door while doing a bit of after-school childminding. I can only wish to be as miserable and cantankerous as him in my later years, (I think I am there now). His car is a shed above all other sheds! So awful it has "cool" appeal.

7.7/10
Never heard of it. Do you mean St Vincent?

Overlord 2018.

A film passed a lot of people by.

It’s not a comedy, serious war movie that turns kind of horror
I really ought to see that at some point, given that I rode through one of the sets quite by chance when it was being made. And the crew were by far the most friendly I've ever stumbled upon. They make lots of films and TV shows where I used to live, as it's an MOD training area, so access can be restricted, and large areas fenced off from the public.

They were filming the scene in the woods where many dead paratroops were hanging from trees in the 'chutes, and it happened to be on/around a popular MTB trail. No filming at the time (they were filming at night) but we were pretty surprised to see all these mannequins in US uniform hung in the woods. Unit security wandered over and asked us to stay out of the filming area and not touch anything, but other than that they were pretty chilled. They talked about the project, referred to the film by it's release title, and even talked about who was on set and when. The other 'nice' unit was the Detective Pikachu second unit, doing a car crash scene in the same area. At first they were quite gruff, but when they realised that we didn't want to get any sneaky spoilers or photos of the set, but just wanted to ride the trails, they even moved their cordon a few meters to let us have access to the trail entrance. And let us shelter from the rain in their welfare trailer once. The worst production units for being miserable, aggressive, and downright horrid, I'm afraid, were the Jurassic World 2 crew, and one of the Bond films (face full of diamonds bad guy?). The Jurassic World security mob threatened to set their guard dogs on some bloke taking pictures from outside their fence. He was also told to take his young daughter off his shoulders or "face consequences". I was threatened with the dogs too, but on the other side of the set I found a chap who I'd played rugby against at school back in South Wales. And the Bond set had wrapped when we rode through, and the set was being dismantled. But still a 'Walty' security guard in a black bomber jacket waddled and puffed his way after us as we took a few photos of the wrecked stunt vehicles that had been left lying around awaiting collection. I love watching films with local connections, and seeing places I know well "pretending" to be many miles away. I should also look up 'Criminal' to be honest. That did some stunt work and aerial scenes on the disused WW2 runways of a local airport (where some of the grid scenes for 'Rush' were also filmed).

...sorry for the thread drift, but I haven't watched any films this last couple of weeks.

Damn, you are quite correct!

Thought of one thing and posted about another!

Apart from that, Brooklyn is a great film.

That is funny!

Just to say Brooklyn is well worth a watch and I’ll give that 7.5 or thereabouts as well.

The Place Beyond The Pines

2hrs 20, interesting way to make it take that long which surprised as I wasn't expecting the intro to move to what it did. A good US school-kid tragedy, I'm giving it 8/10.

We Need To Talk About Kevin

Similar vein, US school-kid tragedy. You know it's coming, but still, not only is there that, but the impact on others too....... 8/10 as well as it's a different type of good to TPBTP.

The Gentleman

My word it was a mess of a film. Couple of funny bits, but basically just a mashup of his previous works mixed in with layer cake/sexy beast and little to no character development. Genuinely disliked it

2/10
I thought it was worse than that.
I thought it was great smile

Haven't found rudderless yet. Saw

The Hitman's Apprentice

Low budget Brit gangster sillyness, mildly amusing if not groundbreaking, and only 90ish mins. A 7/10, perhaps a little more if you're in the mood.

Ford V Ferrari

Enjoyed this a lot. Even my wife put down her phone to watch it.

It is what it is (including the Dick Dastardly sneers) but I enjoyed it more than Rush.

7.5/10 for me.

The Beat Beneath My Feel

Lovely little film about a young school lad living with his mother in a rented block.
He tries to learn to play the guitar without his mother knowing due to father in the music business running off.
Enter rundown ex rocker in the flat below and the fun begins.

Excellent little film. I really like these little British films. Very entertaining, easy-going and I like a film with a bit of music in it.

Available on Netflix

7.7 old guitars/10 Stratocasters

By the way, Rudderless it’s on Amazon Prime. That is a good little film also.

Pretty diverse viewing now , The Two Popes

Brilliantly acted by Anthony Hopkins as the Austrian Pope Benedict XVI and Jonathan Pryce as the future Pope Francis.

I am not usually keen on dramas but this was excellent and gave me a chance to have a good rib at my catholic raised wife!

8.0 funny white hats/10 over large crucifixes

Well I was looking forward to seeing The Lighthouse, but as it's only on in about 15 cinemas in the country between Odeon, Vue and Cineworld, and half of those are in London, it looks like I'll be waiting for it on Prime/Netflix/NowTV or DVD/Blu-ray frown . Unless it does eventually get a general release.
