Couple more that I've watched this week...

High Fidelity (2000) DVD

Indy record shop owner John Cusack questions his life after another failed relationship.

Not seen this for years, good stuff. Rom-com w/ some edge, decent soundtrack, cool record shop setting & bonus Saab 900 content.
Great film this, Jack Black is the only really wky part of it, but he doesn't manage to do too much damage thankfully.

John Cussack put out some cracking films in this period, Grosse Pointe Blank being probably the best.

I think JB's OK in this one - maybe because it was one of his early films (I think).

Agree on GPB - cracking film.

Joker

I watched the joker last night with Joaquin Phoenix and was expecting it to be far far more violent than it was. This film was portrayed as one of the most violent ever made was people walking at the cinema in disgust. Either we are all rather desensitised to things nowadays or I must’ve missed quite a bit of it. Good film but nothing like the levels I was anticipating

All of that was part of anti-Joker media campaign to ruin it.

Was it? Why was that then ?

Rocketman : Finally got round to seeing this and was surprised at how good it is. I thought it'd pale against Bohemian R but really its a different beast entirely. I preferred Rocketman.

Because it wasn't about strong women of colour speaking truth to power.

Saw 'Emma' today because the other half is a massive Austen fan. Surprisingly enjoyable, especially since I have never really liked previous efforts on TV and film.

Ana (2020)

It reminded me of one of those films that used to go out on BBC2 late on a Sunday night back in the 90s, “world cinema” or somesuch similar lesser known but unspoken classics. Garcia’s looking a bit old nowadays, still great acting though.

A smidgeon of Kerauac’s on the road however the drone shots of Puerto Rico are just superb.

At the very least the car salesmen here will enjoy it. smile

One of those films that I never got around to watching at the time. By the numbers (pun intended...) but enjoyed it, thanks for the reminder.

Papillion 2018

Can't really recall in detail the original which was good but as a remake I think this was pretty solid.

A true story about a thief who was framed and sent to prison in French Guyana. Apparently 80,000 prisoners were sent there during the 1900s and very few returned to France!

Jason Bourne was on tv earlier ,well late night till 00.35am on +1 ,the 5th in the series.

10/10 for Alicia Vikander and Julia Stiles.

Overall 7.5 CIA agents /10 Assets, I lost the plot a little bit due to hard of thinking.

I've never watched the 4th JB ,with Jeremy Renner ,should I give it a try ?

Coming To America

It’s been years and I can still recall a lot of the dialogue hehe it was on telly last night.

I’d genuinely forgotten how it ended however and was rather surprised at how crap the ending was! Still an Eddie Murphy tour de force.

Difficult one. Many people hate it. Plus, it's only tangentially a Bourne film as Renner plays someone else, so it's more of a "Bourne universe" film than a Bourne film as such.

I actually really like the Renner one. I like Renner as an actor, he has the it factor. I find the other one boring.

Official Secrets.

Now on Prime, DVD from 24th.

Firstly I should admit I'm a sucker for political thrillers (All the President's men. Margin Call etc), so my score might be high... but a solid

8:5 / 10 ...not least for exposing Blair and Bush for the Liars they were.
