(FWIW, if a film doesn't have a rating of 6.2 on IMDB, I won't watch it.
I love divisive stuff, usually means it's doing something different/interesting that mainstream audiences just don't often get.

Whilst none of these are classics, I wouldn't want to live in a world where stuff like Rubber, Black Sheep and The Box didnt get made.

Bucking the trend massively on here, but I just got in from watching Downsizing and I really enjoyed it. I can see why it has a mixture of 1 star reviews and yet also on many top 10 of the year lists, but I'm much closer to the second camp.

The concept tself is an absolutely fascinating one and there could be an endless supply of stories to be told in that world. Did they choose the right one after setting the scene? Apparently not for most people, but it was enough for me, I'm going to be thinking for months about the logistics and practicalities that would present themselves in that world.

His film choices are such that if I see his name, (Nicholas Cage) in the cast I’ll avoid at all cost.
But.

I really enjoyed, “Matchstick Men”. Really great film. 8/10.
Leaving Las Vegas
Bad Lieutenant - port of call new Orleans
Joe
8mm
Lord of War
Red Rock West
Adaptation

And of course.... Raising Arizona

All worthy of praise imo.
I agree. Even an Best Actor Oscar gong for Leaving Las Vegas and a nomination for Adaption. I loved Raising Arizona. He can be a fine actor. But his film choices of late have been terrible.
I can't really argue with that.... laughlaugh

I hear he has bills to pay due to his crazy spending habits. Feck knows though. Might just be easy money.

no question at all about this bit ^^^ Leaving aside the real world practicalities (I know it's a fantasy!) cats and rats alone would have a ball!

I spent my entire commute this morning thinking about how exposed they all were, hundreds of thousands of people living within the space of a football stadium with nothing but a net protecting them. It wouldn’t take too much effort from ‘big people’ with a grudge to wipe out millions. I kinda thought that’s where the movie might go when the chap in the bar started talking about taxes etc. I was also wondering about the thousands of service personal, those tasked with downsizing everyday objects etc. I appreciate it’s a movie, but the leap from inventing downsizing to logistically putting together a fully functioning miniature world was ridiculously quick.

It could be a never ending TV series, but sadly I think that boat has sailed now.

3 Bill Boards 7/10 - Good movie, very well acted but finished a little too abruptly, wanted to find out what they did to the guy

Detroit 6/10 - OK, obvioulsy a very hard hitting topic and based on a true story, it just ended up me feeling a little empty.

Downsizing 5/10 - Should have been good, started slow, had a good middle then a lousy ending...again finished too quickly.

Battle of the Sexes 7/10 - Hadn't heard the back story but wasa nice film, well acted and a nice story...Steve Carell's performance was great!

Feel with all that i have watched recently could have had so much more, they all had much more potential imo

Only God Forgives

I'm a big Ryan Gosling fan so anything with him in it is good with me, another Refn film which is a bit 'out there' as you'd expect, both the mrs and I enjoyed it.

7/10

Kristin Scott Thomas is in it looking foxy as hell too, which can only be a good thing.

Watched most of "Harry Brown" last night, still quite a depressing film but went the way that I was hoping "Gran Torino" would have, but didn't.

I think I have a crush on him, despite being a happily heterosexual male.

I think he does 'mean and moody' better than any other Hollywood actor, I like understatement.

Not much to enlighten, its not a difficult plot - some films just don't click with some people.

It is a brilliant film however, in my opinion and in the opinion of pretty much everyone else on here and every critic and will win Oscars.

If I hadn't enjoyed such a highly rated film I would realise it was just not for me, not score it 1/10

I will naturally reserve judgement till I have viewed it but given my like of the actors and the frailer, I am eagerly waiting for this to come round, (silly local flick has an abundance of, "50 shades of paint" on atm, why?).

Mel is my fave at mean and moody, or slow burn.
I currently have Drive on my sky box, after an abortive attempt to watch it, I'm gonna give it a second chance. Gosling is usually a turn off for me on films, but I'm willing to give films multiple goes.
