The Rental- 2020

2 couples rent a secluded house for the weekend and get caught up in a strange series of events.

First film directed by Dave Franco, younger brother of James Franco and stars in a few films like Now You See Me.

Starts off well and has potential but then the last act falls apart and ruins it.

Ok for a weekend watch but just average.
5/10

The Foreigner on Netflix.

Enjoyed it, no idea about the politics of the film re Northern Ireland, but as a revenge film I thought it fair shifted along nicely. Jackie Chan did a good job of conveying the desolation he felt as the last member of his family was taken from him. Stunts and fighting were nicely judged on comparison to the way over the top bks we see far too often these days. A solid 7/10 for me.

Blues Brothers

Saw the last third of this again the other night as a lucky pre bed staller. Not much to say really (luuuurve it) other than I fair chuckled my way through the utter carnage trailing in their wake on their way to the tax office. How many cars were trashed making this?!?

Cosmos

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4477292

Cosmos explores the thrilling first hours of first contact when three astronomers accidentally intercept what they believe to be a faint, coded signal from a distant alien civilisation

Underrated first contact type drama/sci-fi, will be a little slow for some, especially the first half, but enjoyed it myself.
They did well with a low budget here, interesting enough. Thanks

Cool film. Not as many cars smashed as it seems though - 104 (60 in the cop car pile-on).

Matrix Reloaded destroyed 300+ for one scene!

Blade Runner 2049

watched it at the cinema and wasnt impressed, gave it another go on PRIME - meh, still not that impressed - didnt have that "something" -- and why do all mega-company-owners-in-the-future have to be total wierdo's

was it lining up a sequel and didnt perform well - like Blade Runner Revolution or something

How bizarre, I watched it again last night on dvd.

Blade runner has been one of my favourite films since it was released. I thought 2049 was very well done and a fitting follow up.

It's the kind of film you have to immerse yourself in, rather than being a paint by numbers run of the mill film you just watch and forget.

I thought it was spectacular on the big screen.

Thought it was excellently done and as good as the original.

Watched The Post, stellar cast but slightly off paced for a newspaper drama. Felt Hanks and Streep kinda sleepwalker through it, woukd still give it a 6 though...

Rambo Last Blood.
I wanted to see it when it came out last year....but forgot about it until it came on amazon prime last week.
I have always loved Rambo ever since seeing First Blood on VHS video, which I had to wait my turn to hire it at the video shop when it was first released.
This one although still enjoyable if you're a fan, is without a doubt the weakest of the franchise.
It is appropriately titled. biggrin

I watched it a while back and thought it was quite good at the time and going to watch it again tonight on terrestrial TV.

Not so much a film but I watched a documentary on the Enron fiasco on Sky yesterday and thought it was fascinating.

I'm currently going through a phase of watching films based on true events and documentaries as often fact is can be better than fiction smile

The Wee Man

on Amazon Prime, I watched this last night and really enjoyed it. Based on Glasgow criminals Paul Ferris, Tam McGraw and Arthur Thompson (although with a slight bit of artistic licence).

Worth a watch and one that totally passed me by before. John Hannah and Martin Compston star.

The Birdcage

Not seen it in years. Still a brilliant comedy. Nathan Lane and Hank Azaria both excellent as supporting actors.

Ant man, currently going in order of the marvel franchise. One of the weaker films in the series. Really was a chore to watch.

Greyhound (on Apple tv). Really disappointing. It felt like a chaotic mess, far to much action and not enough build up. I couldn't care about the characters, or anything in the film.

Finding Nemo. A film i haven't seen for years. Truly is a classic.

Identity Thief

Whatever Melissa McCarthy is in, she plays the same character, but I like her, and I thought this was fun.

7 pratfalls out of 10 throat-punches.

Give St.Vincent a watch then with her and Bill Murray, she actually has a more serious role and does really well with it.

Greyhound.

Excellent WW2 action film with Tom Hanks.

Greyhound destroyer accompanying convoy across the Atlantic when attacked by a pack of U-Boats whilst out of range of air cover.

Some real tense moments.

Can You Ever Forgive Me? was a good, non-comedy rôle from her too, in fact.
