Mrs B forced me to sit through 'Arrival', featuring what I thought would be alien action, but turned out to be one of the dullest, most boring, ste films I've watched in a while....
Agreed I thought both were pretty gash myself.
Enjoyed the silliness that is downsizing.
You were never really here - good flick! Whaaaakeen at his ballooned up emotional best but it's not without its criticism. Cctv savage scenes were iffy. Strange choice of direction which I felt dissipated the tension that was built up beforehand. But all in all I liked it.

Seeking a friend for the end of the world....
A few years old now, but Steve Carrell is decent, Keira Knightley a little annoying, but I enjoyed it overall, different take on a rom com, quite moving really, and makes you wonder what you'd do in the same situation.
8/11
Definitely 8/11 It's one of my favourite all time films.A few years old now, but Steve Carrell is decent, Keira Knightley a little annoying, but I enjoyed it overall, different take on a rom com, quite moving really, and makes you wonder what you'd do in the same situation.
8/11
I've also recommended Hidden Figures on here as a recent excellent movie.
Ms Knightley is in Begin Again with Mark Ruffalo and we enjoyed that also.
Phantom Thread
DD Lewis plays a famous dress designer in 50's London, and is, frankly, a complete dick through the entire film. Lives and works with his sister, obsesses over dead mummy, and treats his female partners/girlfriends/notsurewhattocallthem like st.
Eventually - while ordering the biggest breakfast ever - meets waitress Alma, who becomes his new female companion/muse/model. Shes a bit more ballsy than the previous ones though (yeah, go Hollywood - a strong independent woman!) but reasoning and talking with DDL doesn't improve his attitude to her, so she takes the unusual step of poisoning him - only a bit though! Just enough that hes sick for a few days. This is where it all goes a bit weird...
Anyone seen it?
Are we to take it that he willingly allows himself to be re-poisoned because in his weakened state he becomes a helpless child again, and Alma becomes a caring mother figure, replacing his dead mother? Or does the last dose actually kill him, and the flash-forwards we see where Alma describes pushing a pram around are actually how she hoped it would all end up?
Couldn't really recommend it - I just wanted to punch DDL throughout. Theres a few scenes of him driving an old Bristol around like a loon.

This is a bugbear of mine. Take Superman, as an example. We make a suspension of disbelief that he's super-strong and can fly, and has laser vision, etc. etc. That's fine - the rules are laid out and we accept them as part of our suspension of disbelief.
But what annoys me is when he then picks an aircraft up by its wing tip. The laws of physics haven't been suspended, we haven't been told he can project a force field round the aircraft, or has some kind of levitation power, so the wing tip should just snap off rather than supporting the entire aircraft.
Or Iron Man. If you encase an egg in close-fitting metal skin and then slam it into a wall, the metal skin might not be harmed but the egg will break. So, really, Tony Stark should be turned to mush in most of his fight scenes.
But, anyway, I digress.

You've just ruined Iron-Man for me. I'm gonna have to retrofit vibranium into his suit.

He probably has some kind of whizzy inertial dampers a few molecules thick or some other convenient maguffin. So everything is ok and you can continue to enjoy it I'm gonna have to retrofit vibranium into his suit.
Although, whilst we're at it, Robocop's organic brain should also be mush.
Gods, I hate my physics background sometimes.

Missus choice last night so it was "Rough Night"
I was fully expecting a silly brain out gross-fest chick movie like Bridesmaids but it was no way near as good as that
in fact it was utter nonsensical crap
we both agreed to switch off after 30 mins
1/10
But only on prime for £10.99!!!!!!!I was fully expecting a silly brain out gross-fest chick movie like Bridesmaids but it was no way near as good as that

The Strangers: Prey at Night - 1/10
The 1 is for a fantastic swimming pool scene. The missing 9 is down to incredibly badly drawn characters that are intensely dislikeable making every single bad horror movie decision you can imagine...and not even in a fun knowing way.
It's awful. Really really awful. Odeon have damaged Scream Unseen in a big way tonight (we were all there in the hope of Heridatary).
