Solo has all but finished it's run at the cinema - and the final global box office take looks like it will be a little over $390m.
that would have been inconceivable at one point. Its a star wars film!
People have been beaten over the head with star wars too much recently. Its no longer special (except rogue one which was amazing)

It’s a shame because it’s not a bad film (terrible lighting aside) and deserved to do rather better. Hopefully it will get more of an audience on dvd, download etc..
I watched it last night and had no great expectations, having heard it talked down on release and having seen a couple of underwhelming reviews.
It was fine. Ehrenreich wasn't anywhere near as bad a Solo as I had been told and had expected. It was a perfectly reasoanable watchable film - but not really any more than that. I suppose the argument is that you should expect more from a Star Wars film.
The bigger issue for me is that the underwhelming reception has put a spoke in the McGregor Obiwan film that any right-thinking SW fan needs in their life!

, and that can be stretched to other/all acion/adventure films, they need to be more, so much more. The bigger issue for me is that the underwhelming reception has put a spoke in the McGregor Obiwan film that any right-thinking SW fan needs in their life!
I've bene bored recently and watched a lot of youtube vids from my fave entertainers. (tad surprised at how many film people are on youtube and at how many are so boring, many of them are almost indetical), anyhoo I watched the rlm boys on American ULtra and they highlighted Max Landis tweets.
https://youtu.be/0MEA7B3MKcg?t=1026
this led Max Landi to contact them, and they had a prety decent chat about the processes of getting a big money film to the cinema
https://youtu.be/DR-Dry8Qb4A
I'd also add that I am happy that Solo's pathetic box office has now nixed the Boba Fett film and probably ended the Obi film. Hollywood doesn't understand esoteric characters. A SOlo film was always going to never fill the spot. I hope thee are no more legacy character films.

Edited to sound less like Yoda.

I don’t think it’s that. It was TLJ which left a sour taste in the mouth of many fans. Unfortunately Solo has suffered as a result. I mentioned earlier in the thread that it’s a pretty good film, a shame that it’ll probably be a one off. I’d rather they binned episode IX and worked on the expanded universe.
Yep this.TLJ is the only movie to date I haven't bought on home media (all of the others I had on VHS, then DVD, then blu-ray).
Solo is the only SW movie I haven't seen at the cinema......I may pick it up when it comes out on blu-ray, but i'm not all that fussed and certainly won't be rushing out on release day. I'll probably wait until it's in the reduced bin.
I was excited when TFA and R1 came out - TLJ has killed that excitement.

Everyone’s entitled to an opinion of course, but I would suggest you give it a try before you pour too much scorn on it.
I don’t understand how you can be so passionate about a film you’ve not watched.
I'm not passionate about it. I do have an interest in how this property moves forward.I don’t understand how you can be so passionate about a film you’ve not watched.
I've watched some breakdowns of the film. I don't feel I need to watch it but when it is on free to air telly, I will watch it though.

I have to fundamentally disagree with the idea of forming an opinion purely based on views of others, but it does seem to be par for the course these days.
The idea of missing out on something I might enjoy because someone on YouTube ( who may well have all sorts of hidden agendas) says so is a bit weird.

Passionate may not be the correct term, but you’ve certainly been vocal about it.

I'm vocal about films, that hasn't changed since day 1, it's what I like to chat about mostly on hereI have to fundamentally disagree with the idea of forming an opinion purely based on views of others, but it does seem to be par for the course these days.

I had formed an opinion on this before it went into pre-production (I do for a lot films, especially those I know a lot about especially sequels, remakes reboots) creating a story about an esoteric character is not good, explaining away minutiae why a lot of stories are not delivering, some stories needed not to be told. I may have watched it is reports here were good, I've been conned by large hollywood films too many times in previous years, and since the last jedi and the fallout from that was hideous and not even a hidden agenda.
Personally I find weird those who comment on others who comment, there is a fair bit of that on PH< there was tonnes of it in the jedi thread. I'll continue to form my own opinions on all I watch and read and be vocal about it with those who won't tell me it's weird for me to hold my opinions

I wouldn’t want to “fall out” with you as I find the vast majority of your posts both insightful and interesting. I do think on this occasion you’ve got it wrong though.I had formed an opinion on this before it went into pre-production (I do for a lot films, especially those I know a lot about especially sequels, remakes reboots) creating a story about an esoteric character is not good, explaining away minutiae why a lot of stories are not delivering, some stories needed not to be told. I think it’s important to form your own opinion prior to too much outside influence.
In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter I guess. After all it is just a film.

That's a fair reaction TBH. I had written it off but my daughter wanted to see it (and the meerkats were picking up half the tab) and, well, you've already read my opinion of it.I've watched some breakdowns of the film. It wasn't cinema perfection by any manner of means but it was a lot more cohesive than TLJ and set-up a non-jedi Star Wars storyline that could have had legs.
I won't pay any money to see Solo on priciple. TLJ was a such an obnoxious big middle finger to the whole franchise that I'm not talking to that franchise right now.
Incredible that so many people had spent so much time, care and effort on SW throughout the years and TLJ was allowed to happen. I haven't been this upset since I found out Kate Humble was married.

TLJ was terrible, there is no doubt. However to write off a source of enjoyment because of a mistake is a bit extreme.
Disney will know TLJ was an error. They will be doing everything possible to correct it. They have too much invested to do anything else. The only possible risk is they mistake the valid criticism for toxic fandom, but I doubt they are that stupid.
