Also, the frontman never seems to show his skills, despite the leather apron and silly hat.
And once you've spotted this, he becomes very irritating.... taking the credit for work he hasn't done.

Good program though - on a par with 'Gone Fishing' for gentle and wispy TV.
I might be wrong but on early episodes, a couple of year ago, I'm sure he used to do woodwork, maybe some upholstery too.

Woodwork seems to be exclusively the young lad now (James?), and they seem to have a few upholstery specialists.

I guess he came over as a bit of a frontman, so they tweaked his role in the show.

It's stuff like this and Mortimer &Whitehoue that make the licence fee more palate.

It makes me wish I'd done what I really wanted to do many years ago and learnt how to restore paintings; such an amazing skill. We need more programmes like this rather than all the peak time crap we have to put up with.

I watched an episode last week where one of them was repairing a precious silver case using a massive 3000w cheap hot air gun and was thinking why don't they use the proper tool for the job (an air rework station), seeing them use the wrong tool for the job completely soured the series for me.

I prefer the program on Quest where they repair the stuff that Drew guy with the flatcap buys, seems to focus more indepth on the restoration process and has far less filler.

BBC1 at 4.30pm. Supposed to be a new series. Always great to watch.

Will Kirk amazes me - don't know how old he is, but surely not over 30? His level of skill is extraordinary, like someone who's been doing it for 50 years.

There are tone of things like this that don't require a licence fee to watch, I see lots of them on Youtube..

As one who restores guitars, violins and other string instruments (strictly as a hobby mind) I always find this sort of show fascinating.

Has anyone seen 'Money For Nothing'? - it's the same sort of thing, they find people who are about to throw stuff out, rescue it, turn it into something better and sell it. Then they come back and give the profit to the original owner.

Funny thing, Jay Blades, who appears in both programmes and has done some amazing work, was on Richard Osman's House Of Games last week and was completely useless - came last every day!

If slow tv restorations are your thing then try ‘mymechanics’ on YouTube. The videos he makes are perfection, as are the results of his work on the actual item

It's a new series - the workshop has been re-thatched.

Agreed on ep2 but ep1 the weaved basket for child was on the last series. Still good watching.

Give him some credit, he sweeps up AND switches the lights on.
Very important work.

Huge laugh from us this evening when Susie, the leather restorer, introduced her ancient Singer sewing machine, "This is Pearl..."
