Megane looked like it had slicks on.
I had a BIT of sympathy with the Megane driver, only took himself out while pressing on in a performance car, but the sympathy went once it was obvious he didn't have a seatbelt on, and had plugged in a 'blank' to ensure the electronics wouldn't notify him constantly. oobster said:

Thanks OP, just watched two episodes and about to watch a third.
Very interesting program, well presented without being sensationalised.
This sums it up very well, I can't understand why it's only on BBC Wales and iPlayer.Very interesting program, well presented without being sensationalised.
I wonder if ‘Keeping Faith’ is national.

overtaking on blind bends is more than pressing on. If he hadn't died then it was clear it was only time.It was said that other drivers reported being overtaken dangerously by the Megane moments before the crash.
There's a difference between 'pressing on' and doing more than 70 in a residential area, and what about the idea of being able to stop in the distance you can see?
I think this programme needs a repeat on a national channel. Knowing what actually causes crashes (or turns survivable ones into fatal ones) is something drivers should know more about.

Thought there was also the question of the brake skid marks (30 mrs or so and was the ABS working), he looked to be coming over a rise in the road on a 40 limit and they approximated 70mph where the skids started and 50 at impact (the bit with the speedo stopped at 50). Enough for the lorry loaded with turf to be shunted and the drivers head to snap back and smash the rear view screen.
Edit. That is the lorry drivers head sat in a stationary lorry.

Megane one was a bit tough to watch. I'm on a Meganesport facebook group and remember the brother of the lad who died posting up when it happened. Didn't know the details of the crash until I saw the program but that car is pretty much identical to mine so was a bit eerie seeing that familiar dashboard all smashed to bits like that.

Joking aside, are there others on this Megane forum who use seat belt blankers?Thesprucegoose said:

Wondering what the guy did to the brakes to cause them to lock in such a way, afaik he was running a stock brake setup and not some dodgy BBK, wonder if he fitted a bias valve?

Seat blankers are useful for when you've got a 4/5 point harness to stop the nagging boing noise, using one to simply not wear a seatbelt of any kind is fully retarded though.wjwren said:

Not as far as I'm aware. I didn't know such a thing existed or that people still needed to be told to wear a seatbelt. Those steering wheels are a common upgrade and the buttons will have operated the cruise control. The seats and brakes are standard kit. Disabling the ABS isn't a thing either as far as I know and nor is it particularly problematic (as in it breaks so people strip it out which is usually why stuff like that gets removed) which isn't to say some don't do it anyway! Warning lights all over the dash are just a Megane thing though so even if it was flashing the owner may have just assumed it was having a funny five minutes. The Clio 172 Cup didn't have ABS from the factory though (Endcarboremode)
