Anyone tried Simon Mayos classical station ?
Its a bit like Classic FM light but very pleasant
Whats it called I might give it a go?

Interestingly since I have retired I hardly listen to radio 2. I tend drift around stations.
Scala Radio its on DAB and via on line no FM though
Scala is supposedly available through Amazon Echo, but I can't make it work.

its awkward and not as transparent as asking for radio 1 etc
I have google home and if I say hey google play scala radio she says its not available
If I say play radio 1 it plays
If I say play Rock FM it plays
If I say play Scala radio on tune in - it plays fine

I wonder if its same on Alexa - ie you have to say scala radio on tune in ??

Edited to add
Actually I just realised I have Alexa on my Fire TV and sure enough it plays if I say "hey alexa play Scala Radio on tune in"
It don't work if I just say hey alexa play scala radio
You seem to need to mention tune in as well

If Jim you try that and it works could you just give a reply - genuinely curious to know if its same on the echos as the firestick

I did try adding the reference to TuneIn last time I tried, with no luck, but I'll try again and report back. This is on mk1 Echo and mk1 Echo Dot.

I'll try it on the firestick too.

Off topic - sorry.
I reckon the original echo is a really great piece of equipment and that rotator volume at the top is sheer class I had one and then a mk 2 and the sound was a bit smoother on the mk2 but it wasn't better just slightly different. But the sheer class of the mark 1s construction is great.

I'm sure Sara Cox is a nice person but she's crude and vulgar on the radio - I cannot stand listening to her. I've got a (really) broad sense of humour but have to switch her off. Simon Mayo really nailed the Drivetime Show and I was sorry to see him leave.

Chris Evans was ok but sycophantic like Zoe Ball. Not all luvvies are amazing, wonderful, fantastic and incredible people. I think it was time for him to go and wish Ms Ball and Cox would calm down and stop trying so hard.

It's Radio 2, for God's sake - just stick some music on and STFU.

I have to say, I'm enjoying Sara Cox (despite the listener participation bits, which grate somewhat) and I'm even coping with Zoe Ball in the mornings.

However, I really, really, really cannot stand that Rylan cretin on Saturday afternoons who took Zoe's old slot. He's nearly as bad as Feltz and Tarbuck, and I can offer no bigger insult than that.

The worse one on saturday is the one on in the morning called Dermot O'Leary, the music he plays is chronic.

I can’t stand Graham Norton on Saturday mornings-strange as I like his chat show on the telly
I used to really like Jonathon Ross on radio2 on Saturday-and the Roland Rivron thing after-was it called jamming?

I have caught some of Graham Nortons show and am indifferent
But I really like the Paul Gambaccini old charts thing that is after it
Where possible I quite like the Mike and Kelly show on Rock FM Saturday mornings

Seriously?!

I'll do her 'show' in a few lines now to save you ever having to actually listen to it again:

[RUN LIZA_T SHOW]
[Liza (Step 1)] Louise has been on....they are having fillet steak with red wine and shallots for their tea (long pause).....(annoying chuckle for no reason) .....(long pause)
[PLAY SONG]
[/END SONG]
[Liza (Step 2)] Mary has been on, she took her dog Timmy out for a walk today, he's resting in front of the fire now.....(long pause).....[SQUEAK DOG TOY] Timmy!......(very long pause)...............(possible chuckle)
[PLAY SONG]
[/END SONG]
[Repeat step 1 to 2 using different names, duration 120 min]
[/END LIZA_T SHOW]

Reading this thread just goes to show why the Controller of Radio2 shouldn't pay any heed to the opinions found on social media.

If he/she did, so far we'd have ditched pretty much everyone except Ken Bruce

I don't mind Sarah Cox, she sounds like an old girlfriend of mine who was very mucky.

Zoe Ball is just Mumsnet on the radio. I'd rather listen to a Numbers Station.

On R6 - Shaun Keaveney is on borrowed time,. He's crap in the afternoon. He's not as funny as thinks he is and the pauses as his brains scrambles to catch up when he "does improv" are just embarrassing.

Mary Anne Hobbs sounds like a bad hypnotist or some cat lady who owns a crystal shop - all breathless, woke mind bks.

I think it should be 24 hours of Bob Harris.

I was laughing at her completely losing it trying to tell the tale of the bloke carrying eggs in the plastic pig the other week, she couldn't carry on for laughing and had to play a record whilst she recovered. I like her style, a bit eccentric, but in a good way.

I’ve been catching bits of this over the last few days and it’s very enjoyable. Only problem is it’s just at the wrong time for me to listen regularly frown

+1
Practically Pick of the Pops is the only thing I listen to on Radio 2. Well, via the BBC Noise app as I'm always doing something when it's on the actual radio.

Are you insane? Ken Bruce is the first (actually, second, after that insufferable smug tt Vine) to go.

What about Steve Wright and “The Big Show” ?
Is he going to continue to produce the same dross for all eternity ?
