Le Mans ‘66, Ford vs. Ferrari - movie
Discussion
I watched it last week and really enjoyed it. Can’t understand why Ken Miles isn’t better know and more revered here!?
Thought both Bale and Damon were great, and the action scenes were full of action! Very nicely styled scenes as well, a lot of times I thought that that scene would make a great poster.
Did look a lot up on google to check if it was accurate or had really happened that way.

Ken Miles is appreciated by us old farts who take an interest in motorsport history , rather than confining their to very recent F1. There are many other drivers from that era - in which F 1 was an important part, but not the be all and end all and sometimes far from the quickest.
Names like the bloody wonderful Vic Elford , Nino Vaccerella (Targa Florio Ferrari hero and ) Paul Hawkins ,Mike Parkes and many more

Good picks. Hawkeye set an overall lap-record at the Rheims 12-hours in a Lola T70 IN THE DARK! Baffled journalist asked him how he managed it and the reply was " I got lights dunn'I ?"Names like the bloody wonderful Vic Elford , Nino Vaccerella (Targa Florio Ferrari hero and ) Paul Hawkins ,Mike Parkes and many more

theres also a very good book of the period
Just watching this on C4 now, having never seen it. Somehow I wasn't even aware it had been made!
The usual complaints about motor racing films... unrealistic acceleration and cornering speeds, unrealistic crashes and that silly, dramatic changing down a gear thing they do, despite already being flat out on a long straight!
Also, some of the curses being used sound distinctly 21st century.
Otherwise enjoyable enough.

Decent film I thought. Good characters in his wife Mollie and son Peter I thought, too. Even little things like the fact Ken miles drank tea all the time were covered. Slight liberties taken for the film, the GT40 actually raced at Le Mans and broke down in '64 (with 10 cars) and '65 (with 11 AND with Miles as a driver) before the success in '66.
I learnt something in that GT40s were right-hand drive, it wasn't an error, like I thought.

Watched this last night. Enjoyed it and was much better than I expected.
Admittedly, before the movie originally came out I knew next to nothing about Ken Miles even though I knew who Carrol Shelby was, familiar with the Ford-Ferrari takeover proposal, GT40 originally British/Lola, and even the legendary Wood Brothers NASCAR team employed for pitstop duty.
For this reason its probably why I enjoyed it a lot more than Rush which I was forever picking holes at to ruin. (Note to self - it's a popcorn movie, not a documentary)
Yes, the racing scenes were laughable but they managed a good human story between a droll Texan and maverick Limey working for a parochial corporation.
Noticed Road Atlanta subbed for Le Mans and California Speedway subbed for Daytona. (Note to self - it's a popcorn movie, not a documentary)

if you enjoyed the film , you really need to read the book by A J Baime
Go like Hell ,
really good read and an interesting chapter about the top Ferrari driver at the time "Il John " John Surtees who quit the team before the 66 le mans race due to the Ferrari politics ...............somethings never change
