Omg can you imagine the worthy pc horror fest that a remake of The Breakfast Club would turn into?

It kinda made sense in an honest way in the 80s. But now if you aren't an oppressed individual (in your own Hollywood way) fighting for to be someone in your own pointless micro demographic, you're literally no-one.

It's truly a snapshot of its time.

You've all missed THE film that should never be re-made under any circumstances, Dirty Harry.
You can't remake that, how would they handle this scene in modern times.

Very true, however, that's not Dirty Harry, that, I think, is Sudden Impact.

Casablanca

The Third man (Yes, there was a TV spinoff, with Michael Rennie)

The good the bad the ugly

The cruel sea

Lawrence of Arabia.
That's more like it.. A proper list.. Hat's off.

I'll add..

All the Ealing comedies, in fact all the films produced by British companies up until the 1970's..

North by Northwest... My favourite Cary Grant film I think...
Along with The Third Man, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and North By Northwest, I'd like to add...

Full Metal Jacket (no way they'd allow some of Hartman's lines these days, nor find an actor capable of delivering them as well as Ermey)

A Bridge Too Far (how many other films are made where almost all of the technical advisers were also the major protagonists?)

The Eagle Has Landed (Pleasance, Duvall, Caine, Sutherland. It's a masterclass in film casting and a diamond of an idea to boot)

There are some films that desperately needed a remake though, like a lot of the comedy-style Agatha Christie stuff with Margaret Rutherford. Some films seem to need to be remade to suit current times, whereas those that shouldn't be remade seem to me to be timeless. African Queen and Gone With The Wind are two that, in film making technology terms might look a lot better visually, but just wouldn't feel the same to watch if they were updated...

Mags Rutherford is my fave Marple, I don't think she can be betered in that style for that character. Christie didn't like her because she was too bolshy.

In that same vein/syyle/era/genre, I would have added Mary Poppins (also Wizard of Oz), and yet I await this 'sequel' with trepidation.
Hope it's not another Return to Oz.

No carry on film should ever be remade. The humor just does not work in current times.

I think some could. JUst look at the comedies that come out of the USA, Farally and ones worse than them.

Having said that, the early Carry On's weren't like the last few, and a handful of them were just brilliant.

My fave, Carry on Screaming, I reckon if done right, by someone like Edgar Wright, it'd be brilliant. A proviso would be, no comedians, use actors.

Layer Cake.

The bit where Sienna Miller emerges from the hotel bathroom to find the room empty always makes me want to me cry.

I've always thought that Columbo films could be a good franchise to reboot but you'd need them doing very well and find a niche actor who doesn't mind essentially playing one roll for the majority of his career.
I love Columbo films btw!

The Dollars Trilogy

The Thing (that prequel ste just proves why a remake would never work).

Goodfellas

Apocalypse Now

All are sacrosanct and nothing will ever capture the feel of the originals.

Ben Hur.

I refuse to watch the remake, it would crush me, I know it.

Was there ever a Columbo "film"?
