According to the Aviationist (https://theaviationist.com/2018/08/21/iran-unveils-new-domestic-fourth-generation-fighter-jet-but-its-just-an-upgraded-f-5f-tiger/) the actual aircraft wasn't ready so they brought out the 'technology testbed' for the avionics but didn't bother to tell anyone at the unveiling.

Hmm. Not sure I'd consider an upgraded F-5 as a fourth generation fighter...

That's because Jack Northrop designed it to fit standard issue 1950s americans, who were taller and healthier than most of the rest of the world.
