I don't think advertising actually cares about diversity. Perhaps that's obvious since it's about selling; which means following at trend.
Indeed. Had we had a same sex marriage referendum then Id have voted in favour without a moments hesitation, but I dont want to have virtue-signalling depictions of gay marriage forced down my throat courtesy of some corporate wes trying to sell me someones elses soap powder.
That couldn't describe how I feel about it any better

I absolutely despise 99% of adverts, especially the ones that try cramming fake emotion down your throat with some ste cover of a song that's been slowed down, then you realise they're selling coffee or banking. YouTube is by a long way worse than TV for adverts.

I am now motivated to go out and buy a Pukka mattress.

It has brought some clarity as I always thought Pukka was about pies not mattresses

Its hilarious isn't it.

I fail to see how advertising works, it utterly fascinates me in a way, to see and understand how a company thinks being patronising, massively fakely inclusive, virtue signalling, is going to attract the modern person. AS they must KNOW we all see through it. Are there really that many dumb people around?

I suppose some must be taken in by it, but the vast amount of advertising bears no relevance to the real world.
A woman sniffing her blouse at a bus stop as it smells of Bold! FFS, a guy or woman double taking at a bloody Kia as it drives past, Land Rover STILL making adverts with their cars driving over the African plains near elephants, have you no idea about conservation FFS, what are you doing you irresponsible morons.

Adverts were funny, catchy in the 70's to the late 90's, I remember the big footy tournaments and waiting for the new Adidas or Nike or Pepsi ads and they were backed by funky new music I liked etc.
I guess I am now older, wiser and less pulled in.

Yes, there is, Amanda Holden in the charts at #4 with her album just proves everything that is wrong with society!

The odd thing for me is the number of TV adverts where when they start, I know I've seen them loads of times before but I still couldn't tell you which brand or even which type of product the advert is for.

Cats protection society lottery. Produced on Word 6 by someone with 2 days experience of advertising.

Slightly out of focus pictures of gurning kittens and mad looking old ladies hopping around as if their incontinence was playing up.

People often think that the purpose of TV advertising is to persuade you to buy something. That’s not true, not least since in most cases the product isn’t going to be bought there and then. The purpose of TV advertising is to make a product stick in the mind so that when you do decide to make a purchase in the category, it’s in the consideration set.

You might think that wouldn’t work, but of course it does. To prove it, just go to a supermarket and see which, say, loo cleaner, you recognise. It’s invariably one that was advertised on TV. And recognition is a big % of purchase decision.

I suspect it's a stumbling block that Lidl and Aldi had to overcome because of their unknown (here) brands. Now, though, customers are more prepared to take a chance on unfamiliar brands and that might have an adverse effect on the principle you describe.

The new Polestar 2 ad is quite depressing. Says nothing about the car itself but does make a great deal about it being fitted with a Google interface/operating system.

Obvs built for the app generation, who will be mined relentlessly by Google/other big data gatherers : /

This is because price is now overwhelmingly the determining factor in most peoples shopping.
As is quality for rich peopel hence they shop at Waitrose and those shops are in affluent towns.

People are not stupid, yet I do feel advertising companies try and push that they are and that incenses me!

Oh yes, it is a massive intelligence insulting fiasco.

Audi' - "The Future Is An Attitude" - what a load of wk laugh Plus it's another advert that has the usual disclaimer about the vehicle shown not being available in the UK, specification shown isn't available either and neither are some of the interior options laugh

Volvo have started running an advert for more of their reversing safety tech, where the advert has text along the bottom of the screen saying how it's always the drivers responsibility to remain in control of the car and be aware of your surroundings.

Yet the advert shows 2 hipster parents with babies wanging around the house before jumping in the car, not paying attention, then reversing at speed out of a blind drive onto the road but the tech stops them from being ttted by a lorry. A lorry that's been CGI'd in nowhere near the end of the drive so rather unlikely it would have been picked up by the reversing safety tech anyway. Plus the pan shot of the drive they're reversing blind out of shows a decent turning space in front of the house - so why reverse out?

Wrong thread I know. But I actually like Lloyds Bank's advert with The Carpenters hit.
