I thought it was great, nice 90s touches and seamless de-ageing of Samuel L Jackson. Reading posts from the butt-hurt brigade afterwards just adds to the enjoyment!

This is what anyone who dislikes the film is being labelled as. A troll or someone who has issues.

Can some simply dislike the film?

It's like The Last Jedi all over again where people were saying negative reviews were made because it's 'fashionable'.

Well, I saw it this afternoon despite misgivings about the way it is being presented. They should drop all that.

It's a superhero movie and a character introduction, and you kinda get what you would expect. But the plot is intelligent, it includes some surprises, and there are a few chuckles along the way. Maybe not enough real peril for our superhero once she "becomes", but it's 7/10 for me. A good way to spend two hours.

We enjoyed it, miles ahead of Black Panther and IM3.

Amazing considering it wasn't so long ago RDJ had about 45 seconds of de-aged screen time and that was really the first time it had been done to that extent, a few years later we get a central character significantly de-aged that appears in at least half of the movie.

Captain Marvel: The Brie Larson Controversies affecting the Boxoffice?
$61m on Friday in the US, I think it'll be ok somehow, likely to go straight in as the 6th biggest MCU opener ahead of the two GotG movies and Homecoming. 2nd biggest MCU opening in China too.

For the record that puts it only behind the juggernaut that was Black Panther in terms of first solo movie openings.

Cinemascore is A from actual audiences, so comfortably ahead of the nonsense on Rotten Tomatoes. I imagine 90% of the audience won't know or care about the 'controversy' surrounding the film.

Well I'll be adding my pennies for the top room on SUnday, should have been Friday but was working. I wouldn't guess at the exact percentage of audience that know about the twaddle, but I'd reckon it's a good chunk as audiences are fairly savvy these days, and for the ones whom it is a problem, well they won't be going . biggrin

Doing my best to help my predictions!

My movie system of the last few years is this;

  • Watch first trailer
  • Decide if want to watch in cinema or at home upon release
  • Ignore everything online and in the media
  • Watch movie

My wife and I watched this tonight, and we both thoroughly enjoyed it, as did pretty much the entire audience in the cinema. There was a comfortably happy buzz in the place.
Better than a lot of the Marvel movies for entertainment value, but what do people expect from a comic book story? It's not high drama or tortured artists. It's family entertainment based on comics! laugh
Introduce new character, enjoy some irony, sarcasm, nostalgia, and one-liners.
Watch, laugh, feel nostalgic, laugh, enjoy, go home.
Although it does also tie in pretty well with many of the other MCU stories.

As noted by someone earlier, Ben Mendelsohn was really enjoyable, delivering some great grin inducing humour along the way.

I feel bad for society nowadays, not being able to enjoy comic book stories and some humour.

Wierd mostly positive on here and yet a lot of the audience rating sites aren't exactly covering it in glory and my mate whose judgement I usually trust says he was looking at his watch most of the way through which is never a good sign.

Really in two minds whether I should go or not now.

With whom do you usually jive with here vis-a-vis film experiences? That's a pretty good barometer.

I probably don't know anyone well enough or follow what films they like closely enough on here tbh but like I said my friend and I are Marvel fans and I trust his opinion more than most. He didn't like it and he's usually more forgiving than me

For instance he thought TLJ was decent, at least initially so his judgement can sometimes be suspect although tbf he did eventually come around and admit he got caught up in the hype with that one. hehe

I don't give a cr*p about that, actors often virtue signal to sell movies.

What I care about is whether they have put SJW nonsense in the movie or not. The indications from the trailer and early audience reviews are not good in that regard. One of the most helpful reviews on IMDB states that she has no character development, and no vulnerability, which is a trait of SJW female leads.
Watched it last night and enjoyed it. Brie's face seemed a bit inanimate at first, but she perked up as the movie progressed.

But you have just made me realise actually that she didn't really have a moment of real vulnerability or peril to overcome. No real weakness. That's what was missing.

I just couldn't get over how they managed to massage Jackson's face into his younger looking self. They've nailed that. Liked how this sets up end game and also how it kinda answers some questions from the very first MCU movie about how the tesseract got to earth and how shield pivots to its position concerning all things super hero.

As i dont pay attention to media crap or trailers etc these days I had no idea of the SJW crapola going down in the run up to this. Its very much ohh its saturday, is there anything on at the flicks? yes? Captain Marvel, lets go see that. This is the best way to live for a lot of things these days otherwise things can easily get tainted with all the guff people are losing their st about in the twittersphere.
