Is now a good time to admit I enjoyed Iron Man 2 quite a bit. The end battle with IM and War Machine vs the drones is brilliant.

Went to see it, I liked it. Samuel L Jackson honestly appears to just be enjoying himself, and the soundtrack choices are great. Be interested to see if we get a further "interstitial" timeline entry with a Captain Marvel 2.

The Stan Lee cameo is... nice. I think Mallrats was the first film to do the "Stan Lee in cameo" thing, and this is the first MCU film where it's a cameo of Lee as Lee. I believe they have a couple more from him already in the can for other films, but it kind of felt like a decent bookend to me.

A solid 5 out of 10 movie.

She quickly became so powerful that there was zero danger, zero tension, zero interest.

Did wonder about the shooting the True Lies poster thing, now I know. More SJW wk. True Lies absolutely pisses on this superhero-by-numbers effort.

Credits scene probably the most interesting bit, but a big fat meh overall.

Listening to the Empire podcast on the film, it was meant to be Jim Carey as The Mask she shot (looks like a Skrull) but their studio wouldn’t entertain it. They approached Arnie and he was well up for it!

Did the UK showings get the SLJ & BL intro thing at the beginning? What on earth was that about?

I could understand that on Endgame, as its the culmination of years of films building upto it. But as no other Marvel film has had this, it seemed a bit odd.

I've seen it three times in the UK and no intro, just straight into the lovely Marvel titles.

Impressively at the screening last night 95% stayed right through to the second end credit scene too.

That makes sense. THe studio that owns the MAsk wouldn't do it?

Unfortunately not - wouldn’t even entertain it! Arnie just thought it was funny apparently and in good humour

Just come back from seeing it and I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised. I went in with some trepidation but shouldn't have worried as Marvel rarely put a foot wrong with the odd exception or two.

I didn't think the girl power thing was overplayed at all and the 90's touches, nostalgia and the de-aging thing worked very well. My few criticisms would be that the action scenes weren't as big as some of the set pieces we've been used to seeing in Marvel films.

The second is what others have mentioned already, once she gets "the glow" she pretty much becomes indestructible so a lot of the tension in the climatic battle goes out the window. I'm keen to see how they put some of that tension back in Endgame as with her plus a powered up Storm-breaker Thor, I can't really see how anyone could be a serious threat anymore, even Thanos

Not up there with the best Marvel Output but certainly not the worst either, a solid 7/10.

Her powers are space stone derived, THanos owns the space stone. I can see a connection here.

Of course so in theory he could de-power her fairly easily.

And of course killing Thanos isn't the end game anyway, even if they manage that in the opening credits undoing his handy work is the sticky bit.

Here in NZ we had a 2 minute bit with Sam and Brie introducing the film and thanking people for watching it.

Watched CM last night. All very meh. Don't think they overplayed the female superhero side of things too much. As said above, she's just so powerful, so quickly, never any peril, or real threat. Good soundtrack, and I would add, the soundtrack to most Marvel films are usually really good.

I really hope they don't just use CM to easily defeat Thanos. I remember watching LOTR, ROTK, and when Aragon goes and breaks the spell of the ghosts, and then the ghost's go and wipe out all the orcs and what not, at Minas Tirith. I really hope its not a rubbish finish to Thanos like that.

Saw this last night. I had avoided any chat about it, reviews etc as usual - wasn't aware of the SJW stuff.

Many of my thoughts have been covered

- thought brie was a little flat, but I think this is just the style of acting adopted when people play such powerful beings. They're not worried about anything, not scared of anything - flat.
I think it was also specific to the character. At he beginning we saw her being trained to restrain her emotions almost like a Vulcan. Part of the character development in the film was about her rediscovering her human side - in much the same way Spock eventually integrates his human emotions with Vulcan logic.

I'm glad someone said this.

I saw it last week (only just seen the thread) and thought it was a fantastic origin movie up until the point where she managed to break free from the AI and that thing on her neck came off and she was unbeatable. It makes me think the thing on her neck was he AI holding her power and memories back so they could use her and perhaps maybe that makes her vulnerable to Thanos or someone else later on in her story..

After that bit, the movie felt a little bit silly. She's not even trying with the people that she is fighting with. I mean what challenge is another human without special powers when she can destroy a spaceship?. It will be interesting to see what happens in Avengers: End Game.

However, I thought it was brilliant how they just dropped you in, no context, no back story, just put you somewhere and then gave you information piece by piece until you understood the origin. Very similar to Iron Man and the most recent Spiderman film which are both favourites.

I saw it with a mate, but I know I'll end up going again as the wife wants to see it in preparation for End Game.

A few people - me included - have said that.

However the character is just very powerful - even in the comics - so I don’t think there is much to be done about it. Thanos is hugely powerful also, so I don’t think it will be a walk in the park for her.

Endgame, for me, is really about who we lose along the way.
