It's a nice idea, but the hammer was destroyed in the last Thor film.
You know what I mean, his new hammer or a resurrected Mjolnir.
Was it?

I had to watch the trailer again, but I think that's his new hammer axey thing, not Mjolnir.

Correct. That's Stormbreaker his new hammer axe thingamabob.

I thought that was one of the weaker elements of Infinity War tbh. We basically spend the whole of Ragnorok being told he no longer needs the hammer, it was a crutch and the true power is within Thor blah blah blah then in IW he gets his arse whipped and the first thing he does is go running off to make a new hammer.

Odin told Thor, the hammer only help channel/focus his power, he is not the god of hammers, he is the god of thunder.
Stormbreaker is meant to be the greatest Asgardian weapon and could kill Thanos, also as Heimdall is dead it could summon the Bifrost.
To get it made, Thor took the brunt of the Neutron star rays, which almost killed him, fortunately when Thor clutched the completed hammer it revived him.
The new hammer is indestructible, it withstood the Gauntlet/Infinity Stones energy blast from Thanos and as you know missed Thanos head only injuring his body.

It's interesting. Feig has kept it vague. Odin gave his chat to Thor, but was that because he was dying? In the comics Odin has something called the odinforce which is bow he rules/controls Asgard, makes him a Thanos level sort of bloke. WHen he dies it transfers to the next ruler, which is Thor, this is one explanation for Thor's 'level-up.'
The weapon thing. A thing is a good concentration of power, it helps to focus, especially if the person is untrained or new to it, look at Marvel, she shoots bolts. Or Sauron, creating a ring to imbue with a good portion of his own power. SO Thor creates a god-killing weapon that can do in anyone, possibly imbued with a portion of his power, possibly a way to de-level Thor if needed.

I've been very disappointed with Odin in the MCU tbh. Very very weak compared to his comic counterpart, as you've stated he is easily Thanos level with only the full gauntlet able to give Thanos parity. In the comics Odin has taken on galactic beings and won, in the MCU all he seems to do is sit around and lecture Thor.

Thor should now have received all his power but Asgard was destroyed and in the MCU it was stated Hella and Thor drew their power from Asgard. Who knows what will happen though, as in the comics they seem so power up or down the heroes on a whim.

Yeah, one of the things that put me off the comics was the lazy and incompetent writers who would just rip up the work or previous writers, it meant that eventually nothing meant anything and it was all worthless. With films, they can't do that, at least Feig seems to want to make a nice linear story, and they'd be dead wrong to start with reboots and things...though there are some crafty ways I can see it being done.
We did see a hint of badass Odin in raganarok, when he defeated all the worlds. THere's some theories that he had a gauntlet and that's how come he laid waste to everything. There's also some theories that uru is gonna be needed in Endgame for something. I'd for gotten about Asgard being destroyed though.

I like the theory that Odin used the original Infinity Gauntlet to conquer the ‘Nine Realms’. Then had a change of heart, realising that he had become the great evil in the cosmos. It would explain why there was a ‘fake’ gauntlet in the Asgard vault. How else would they know about it long before Thanos had one built for himself?

Yep the dwarves who built the Gauntlet for Thanos obviously have a long standing relationship with the Asgardians\Odin. They built Mjolnir and probably the Destroyer seen in the first Thor movie as well as lots of other weapons which could include an earlier version of the Gauntlet. Hella certainly knew about the Gauntlet as well as the Tesseract and as you say, there was already a fake copy in the Vault. Would make quite a lot of sense.

Although having a race who can basically build galactic scale super-weapons that people know about and aren't that well defended doesn't really seem smart. For all their power, a lot of these supreme beings are pretty stupid.

So, back to CM. Just been to see it and erm......

Prob the most disappointing Marvel film for me. Part of this is the fact I'd only heard of the character in the last few months. I grew up reading the comics in the 70s, Avengers, FF, Spidey, X Men, Gawd even Iron Fist and Captain Britain ffs. This character just left me thinking they'd specifically dreamt her up for IW2. Obv I know she's been in existence a bit longer than my perception but I just struggle to care about the character having seen the movie. Her amazing powers just make you wonder why we're bothering with the likes of Spidey never mind non entities like Black Widow or Hawkeye.

Oh and after the hoohaa about the True Lies poster, I couldn't believe you've all made such a big thing about a split second in this film. I actually did blink at the crucial moment and almost missed it.

Is Hawkeye the one whose special skill is the use of a crossbow? If so, I can see how that comes in handy....

When Thor goes to Nidivillir (sp?) the 'Dwarf' does get very upset at Thor saying that he was supposed to protect them.

I'm confused, if you grew up reading marvel in the 70s then surely you would have heard of Captain Marvel? the male version appeared regularly in a number of titles and Ms Marvel ie Carol Danvers in quite a few as well.

Well I wasn't aware of his/her existence. Back in the days of no tinternet all you had to go on were the comics you read. If you're saying he/she existed then fair dos, but doesn't change anything for me. This film gives me (imo) the impression (obv wrongly?) that she's been shoved in now because of IW2.

Never an a-list star, but Ms Marvel had her own book, with the same creative team that made the New X-Men famous (Claremont & Cockram). She was in the avengers. She is intrinsically linked with the origin of Rouge of the X-Men.
