Why aren't the torpedoes automatically loaded after every launch / why do they not travel with loaded tubes? Are there fuses that need to be set before firing?
I believe they had to be manually set for depth, and possibly speed too. Little screws near the back (depends on make of torpedo of course).RicksAlfas said:
Just finished rewatching S1, and currentlynon S2E3, Wrangel is indeed a complete piece of work AND totally barking.Forster missed what was staring him in the face for so long due to being completely c**t-struck. But another complete piece of work.
Am I wrong to quite like the Commandant played by Rainer Bock? (Played the German civil engineer from Better Call Saul).

Binged season 2, absolutely loved it, brutal, thought provoking etc etc.
I’ve Googled, in series 1, what did Hoffman do/not do to make the crew hate him?
I liked series 2 also. Always great when you have empathy with the bad guys. There’s not enough tv and film showing WW2 from the other side or even a non US U.K. perspective. I’ve Googled, in series 1, what did Hoffman do/not do to make the crew hate him?
TBH I wasn’t sure if it was the last episode or not.
Seems open for another series?

Two things, they were in a wolf pack lined up to attack a convoy when the order came through to disengage, pick up the American Greenwood and then exchange him, which turned out to be Wrangel who was the exchange. See later. Some of the crew, led by First Officer Tennstedt though this was wrong despite the direct order from HQ to disengage and there the division started.I’ve Googled, in series 1, what did Hoffman do/not do to make the crew hate him?
Second thing, at the exchange of Greenwood for Wrangel, Hoffman found out that a trap had been set and the exchange ship was broadcasting position, two US destroyers inbound. Stand off at gun point, cutting long story short, the skipper of the exchange ship agreed to take one of Hoffman's badly injured crew if they would agree not to sink his ship in retaliation for the incoming attack. Hoffman agreed, and once back on board U612, Wrangel, the snake, used that to discredit Hoffman as a pussy and not a brave captain and thus instigated a mutiny helped by Tennstedt who by that time had already been relieved of his position by Hoffman due to insubordination.
Not put in spoiler as it's season 1 stuff.

I didn't realise S2 was even out!
That's this weeks viewing sorted - Awesome!
Same. I read about it many months ago and forgot about it. I remember Das Boot as being subtitled, I assume this is in English? I am pleased to hear people liked it because often 2nd seres can be a real let down. That's this weeks viewing sorted - Awesome!
Without giving anything away, how does it pick up from the end of Das Boot because I remember the U-boat crews returned to La Rochelle and got seriously beaten up by an allied air raid? I assumed they were dead...

It's subtitled German & French with a bit of American English added in. RichB said:

It's subtitled - quite a bit is set in La Rochelle so it's French with English subtitles, the Germans speaking to each other is German with English subtitles, then some (spoilery) bits they talk in English and you wonder where the subtitles are!Without giving anything away, how does it pick up from the end of Das Boot because I remember the U-boat crews returned to La Rochelle and got seriously beaten up by an allied air raid? I don't think it's a continuation of the old Das Boot at all? More of a reboot.
It's one of those series that I like but my OH doesn't so I get to grab half an episode here and there annoyingly, but what I've seen of S2 is good so far, even if there isn't much time on boat.

If you liked the movie you’ll probably like this but it’s got a lot more sub plots and love interest etc than the movie did.
I really liked both but the movie is probably more hard hitting and authentic I imagine.

IIRC the crew in the original series made it to La Spezia in Italy where they were attacked by aircraft. They had to go through the straights of Gibraltar on the way and a scrape on the bottom of the med!Without giving anything away, how does it pick up from the end of Das Boot because I remember the U-boat crews returned to La Rochelle and got seriously beaten up by an allied air raid? I enjoyed S1.
S2 has been good, but the final couple of episodes took a bit of a down turn for me. I felt it got a bit daft with some of the plot and the hallucinations.
Unlike the end of S1 where I hoped there would be a S2, I think it should be left where it is now. A S3 might just push it too much.

I thought that it was very good all in. Good characters and acting and the boats were superb.
The Hoffman story arc took a turn for the daft. Being shot in the stomach for 3 days, Cassandra travelling back to Maine on here own (or leaving for that part), not mentioning that immediate medical assistance is required....I thought it would have been better for Hoffman to get to the dinghy on the shore and row back to the boat, only to be confronted by Wrangel once aboard. Hoffman shoots Wrangel, assumes control and announces "Set a course for home". Also, Forster was told that he couldn't turn down the promotion, so what was the symbolism of him packing away his uniform?
