The Ipcress File
Discussion
Purely out of interest, but how old is everyone on this thread.
Reason I ask was because of a conversation I had at work. I mentioned in passing that I watched, via Netflix, the good, the bad and the ugly as it’s one of my favourite films of all time. That then spurred the conversation to other favourite films...I mentioned things like Cool hand luke, Dirty Harry, Alfie etc.
Films before my time but my dad would watch on a Saturday night after football etc. So I must have been 7 years old onwards. I’m 40 now but hardly any of my friends of similar age know of or have seen these films.

Fiftymumble here.
Living in an era where you can watch anything ever released practically at a minute's notice, bloody kids these days don't know they're born.
Harrumph.
I don’t know if you’ve seen how kids watch movies nowadays. It’s utterly bizarre. I have two girls, ten and twelve and often have friends round. They have acres to Netflix, prime, nowtv, YouTube etc (restrictions in place) but their viewing habits make my teeth grind. They ask if the can watch a film at home, get popcorn etc...but what they do is watch their favourite bits of films. They’ll watch frozen for one song they like...then move onto greatest showman for another, then Up because of a sad bit they like.
It’s a movie montage never the whole movie. I have to leave the room and let them get on with it...I don’t say anything or I’ll sound just like my dad

The channel 'Talking Pictures' (Freeview Ch81 I think) has a lot of dross but the occasional classic film that you may never have seen on any mainstream channel makes it worth keeping an eye on.
Indeed, mostly dross but the occasional late '60s/early '70s film set in London and I'm in my element. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Another old fart here (55) and sadly I missed yesterday's showing. If only one could have such entertainment at one's fingertips...
I have heard or read that the Harry Palmer fillums were regarded as a foil to the flash Bond stuff, in keeping with kitchen sink dramas etc.
All I know is that I keep mistaking Nigel Green for Nigel Davenport. Now where did I put the remote...

It's on the BBC iPlayer.Dalby's office is on Grosvenor Gardens (Victoria). I worked for a company who used that very office for board meetings - I've sat in there numerous times. The ground floor office of the domestic labour exchange appears to be the same building too - although now a reception area.

" Palmer, shoot the traitor Ross".....
Brilliant film, but my fave is Funeral in Berlin.
I think the line is "Shoot Ross, shoot the traitor"; Dalby slips up there by giving mixed messages to Palmer.Brilliant film, but my fave is Funeral in Berlin.
Something just occurred to me - what exactly are they trying to achieve by brainwashing Palmer? He's of no practical use to them, Ross thinks he's gone rogue, dead CIA agent in his flat, etc. Turning him into a double agent isn't going to achieve much.

Perhaps for that sort of thing. "Instruct" him to do some dirty work until he gets caught or killed himself.Something just occurred to me - what exactly are they trying to achieve by brainwashing Palmer?
