Hoping someone might be able to help; my wife's laptop uses OneDrive and is either connected to our unlimited home fibre connection or her office 4G connection which has some pretty sizeable bandwidth fees.

I'm fairly certain there is no inbuilt solution to prevent OneDrive syncing when connected to certain networks but I'm hoping we might be able to achieve something via Windows 10? Does anyone have any experience or a possible solution that would disable sync when connected to the office network?

Thanks in advance.

You could disable "Files on demand" so the laptop always has a copy of every file and then "Pause Syncing" when she gets to the office then when the laptop is connected at home the files are synced.

Thanks, unfortunately we've tried the "Pause Syncing" option, but its dependent on it being remembered....which it isn't all the time.

Maybe configure the 4G connection as a metered connection? This tutorial might help as well:

Although this one indicated you might need to edit a Reg file:

Note I don't use Onedrive soI can't access these settings myself

We decided to stop auto syncing and don't keep any local copies.

They only time it's ever been an issue is on the train it can take a few mins to get a reliable connection. Practically everywhere else has wifi or 4g connection to access the file when required.

Virtual pint sir, I've just tested the metered connection functionality on my laptop and it seems to work without the registry change. Hopefully this will avoid large bills in the future.

Just for awareness (and it may have been fixed now) but even on W10 and a metered connection optioned W10 used to override this and still carry out and download very sizeable W10 updates

It caused me no end of issue when I was using my 4g connection before I got the fibre line installed

This was a little while ago now so may have been resolved but if not, just for awareness. smile
