I’ve just bought a 2007 Mini One for my daughter. It’s an R56 model (2nd generation).

My excuse, in advance, is that it’s not a great time of the year to be buying cars - dark, cold, slippery roads and everyone in a hurry.

Anyway when I got home I realise that the cooling fan runs all the time. It starts with the engine and goes off about 5 mins after stopping. Any ideas?

The engine management light has gone on and off a few times ??

The boot latch mechanism was broken so I changed it for another one. Unfortunately the warning ‘boot open’ light keeps coming on. Daft question but does this need to be ‘coded’ to the car?

All thoughts/help welcome.

Assuming that the temperature isn't reading high, I am guessing the fan will be because the fan stat in the radiator has failed & the previous scrote owner has linked it out to stop the car overheating. Of course the worry would be if it needs that this time of year there my be a MUCH bigger problem. Most likely they have just forgotten after the summer.

The engine management light could be any one of a million things so you will need to see what codes are stored in the ECU to tell more.

The hatch open warning will be because the switch that brings it on either needs adjusting or the hatch itself does, no it doesn't need coding, it is just a switch.
