My son has joined up, (yes I know) and starts in 2 months.
He needs a new watch and as its his birthday next week and I want to buy him something suitable.

I have seen the range of G-Shock watches and these seem robust and suitable.

What do you guys think? Any other suggestions?

Budget around the £200 mark.

Would say thats a good choice, especially in his future line of work!

Not sure if there are many watches as Tough as a G shock.

You could save a fortune though and buy one of these...

And when it breaks or gets smashed in the fight against crimes...its cheap to replace!

It would make you look a bit tight though, so maybe the G shock is best :-)

How about a Seiko SKX? (SKX009, the red and blue theme seems apt biggrin)

Classic, versatile and tough as nails.
Here's a picture of mine:

That said, the G shock will stand a lot more abuse than any other watch anyone could bring up here.

I love an SKX but its got to be G-Shock all the way

One of those would be my choice.

G Shock. I have wore 1 whilst working for the last 15 years plus, including Military and I don't think I have ever broken a G Shock. I have lost a couple but never broke them.

Also as time goes on he may tend to upgrade to a Madman etc, they are that good as wear and not care.

That link from Creation brings back memories, my first G Shock had the protecting bars across the front it could have even been that model. Thats one I managed to lose.

Wearing a Maraththon ADANAC GPD at the mo, which are reputedly standard issue to the LAPD (and the US military). However wish I had bought a G Shock as I think they are better, just wanted something a little different. Can't go wrong with a G Shock but I would recommend getting a Solar one (no battery issues).

Good choice.

My choice (as I have one)

Indestructible, solar powered, and has a built-in compass which may come in handy.

My first thought was G Shock, accurate, tough & (dish)wash proof!

Definitely a G-shock. You can hit someone with the metal ones (well, use it as a bracer for extra blocking power if someone throws a punch biggrin ). Whilst I love the other possibilities of tool watches from SKXs to Subs, in a game of watch conkers, my money's on the G-shock. (Please tell me "watch conkers" isn't as bad as saying a plane's gone tech!)

I will take your advice and buy a solar model. I had no idea that the G – shock was such a good choice!

I think there are probably a couple of models but it is a bit confusing! Any recommendations?

i think the pure digital models are a lot easier to read than some of the ana-digi ones they do.

In the heat of the moment it needs to be clear and easy to read.

I’ve had a G Shock 4765 for about ten years and can recommend it. It is solar powered and radio controlled so is maintenance free and about as accurate as you could want a watch to be. It’s been swimming, skiing and generally bashed about without any issue. My only complaint is the silly little illumination light it has, it is pointless and unnecessary.

Really like my GA 1000. Have both the rubber and bracelet strap for it. Think you can pick these up for around £200 new.

Most Po-Po,
That I know,
Wear a wrist G-Shock,
And a hip holstered Glock

A centre mass shot, body parts splatter
It don't matter
Perp with a bloody spleen
The G-Shock is wipe clean
