Well, thoroughly enjoyed that. By no means a TNG aficionado but watched enough to know the characters etc.
Fantastic production values, good script, well acted and interesting story possibilities. After so much bad/disappointing TV over the past 12 months hopefully this one will be different. Just a shame to have to wait a week for the next one and no 4k version.
I too have noticed it's not 4k, Discovery is! Poor. Fantastic production values, good script, well acted and interesting story possibilities. No doubt others will complain that it doesn't follow on and that someone who was lefthand four seasons ago is now right handed. :-)
Although in fairness, it does feel odd that Data has put on about four stone james_TW said:

I quite liked it, looking forward to more.
Bruce Maddox, blimey, that's a very specific callback, but a welcomely apt one.
Agreed. Loved that and watched The Measure of a Man straight afterwards. Bruce Maddox, blimey, that's a very specific callback, but a welcomely apt one.
And I loved this - was at a gentle pace and sets things up nicely. But one a week? Not sure how I'll cope with that one...

No wonder Ben Sisko's Dad is so upbeat all the time... his restaurant always seems busy I'm afraid I'm struggling again. 4th episode was a bit of a snore fest, as in I literally fell asleep watching it and had to rewind. Things need to ramp up. I'm not talking "pew pew pew". I mean, it needs to get interesting. We're nearly half way through and it feels like two episodes content has been spread across four. I'm concerned we'll get to the end of episode 10, and feel like a 2 hour movie has been told in about 7 hours.
It's not meant to feel, look or be like TNG and that's fine. Unfortunately it's not very Star Trek either, so far. Willing to stick with it for now, but it's been a disappointment, in my opinion.
Even bigger kick in the teeth is that Jonathan Frakes directed this one.

My god, that last one was dire.
Picard himself nothing like the actual character of old. Every new character has some unreasonable hostility against him and then magically is friends because script needs it to happen. Romulans totally different.
I have to agree. I'm sorry to say but I think Patrick Stewart is somewhat out of touch, and hasn't convinced me he remembers how to play Picard. Yes things have happened to Picard and he's changed. But his whole demeanor, the way he talks, moves and interacts.. it's off. Yes he's 80 years old now, but I don't think that really accounts for it. Picard himself nothing like the actual character of old. Every new character has some unreasonable hostility against him and then magically is friends because script needs it to happen. Romulans totally different.

This is set 14 years after Picard quit Starfleet as an Admiral. I'm thinking Voyager long since returned home before that (if we go real passage of time then Voyager would be home and I would think her ships logs would be required reading for all Starfleet Admirals and Captains. If not all officers)
As stated above they may not have met, but you can be sure he knows all about Voyager, her crew and their exploits (in fact an ex-borg drone would be of special interest to him I would think)
Voyager returned to Earth in 2378 - the year before Star Trek: Nemesis, in which Admiral Janeway gives Picard his orders. As stated above they may not have met, but you can be sure he knows all about Voyager, her crew and their exploits (in fact an ex-borg drone would be of special interest to him I would think)
New screens of episode 5 are out. Looks like the piss taking has elevated. Picard with an eye patch anyone?
No, no one asked for that after 18 years!
