There was a lot in that episode that was easy to miss. Just read an article about it...

Apparently in Daestrom Station, one of the things being stored are the remains of James T Kirk as shown on one of the screens whist they are moving about the station.

As well as Captain Archer's NX01 Enterprise at the museum having the engineering section that was planned to be installed in season 5 had it not been cancelled.

It also shows how small the NX01 is, compared to later ships (assuming the docking rings are all the same size), which is not surprising, but interesting to see the comparison.

So none of them get killed off in Picard then.
Well, you say that, but Picard got killed in season 1 and that didn't stop there being 2 more seasons with him in it...... so you never know.....

Ever noticed how dark so many streaming shows are? And how many of their outdoor scenes are shot at night for seemingly no reason?

Apparently it reduces production costs as, in this 4k era in which sets and props have to be much more realistic, the thinking goes that, if it's too dark to see the sets, you don't have to dress them to the same extent...
No offence to you, but that is a giant load of horsesh*t. A good mate of mine does lighting for tv and film, shooting dark scenes is actually far more work, especially in 4K. Everything is dark because that’s what viewers seem to want. Moody is the new bright.
I read that explanation in an article a year or so ago!

Can't find that, but did find this: https://www.quora.com/Why-are-films-movies-nowaday...

Un huh. It uses an Arri Alexa Mini camera with our Anamorphic lenses to shoot. They have a T2.0 capability so it's not the equipment making it dark, but done for atmosphere. The post production / 4k has nothing to do with it. T2.0 can still get all the detail you need in dim scenes. Maybe your TV needs a slight tweak / HDR setting up / curtains drawn?

Look at The Expanse - that's often bright as well as dark depending on the script. They use our T1.4 lenses so can pick up so much detail in dimly lit scenes if needed - all about the "look" controlled by the DoP.

I do like the idea that someone directing a marquee show for one of the biggest franchises of all time would look at a substandard set and say “we’ll just turn the lights down, no one will notice” though laugh.

If you have a HDR telly, its probably caused by that. I believe the Amazon Prime stream is 1080p HDR. There are a bunch of shows that stream in HDR but are not 4k.

These new generation tellies (2023 onwards) are supposed to give us more brightness to fix that problem.

It's why, mostly, I prefer to play a 1080p bluray disc rather than the 4k. Unless, its a blokes night in and I can watch the film in near darkness and all the family are in bed then 4k bluray can really blow your socks off.

Wonderful episode. Clearly written by people who understand and respect the source material. I can hear Kirk shouting “Are you not entertained!”

I certainly was entertained.

Yep, we don’t get Picard in 4k over here. Nothing on Paramount Plus is in 4k over here actually. And yes, the Amazon version of Picard is also 1080p. My OLED (LGC1) doesn’t cope that well with 1080p. Hopefully it’s released in 4k Bluray…

Yes, Episode 6 is the best of Star Trek in around 25 years.

This season has been absolutely phenomenal.

only issue is that that was Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the armies of the north, general of the Felix Legions. Loyal servant to the true Emperor

Strange New Worlds is still the best Trek since DS9.

Anyway… speculation on the finale based on Ep6..

We know that modern ships are all networked together, so there’s bound to be a need for older vessels to save the day (Battlestar style…). We’ve seen Voyager and the Defiant are parked up. The LaForge family were hinting at something else that we’ve not seen which must be the Enterprise D, so we’ll end up with Shaw on the Titan and Picard, Seven and Worf all in their own ships.

Do you know the story behind DS9?

can't be the D, the engineering hull got blown up and the saucer crashed into a planet. Might be the E?

Why not. Plenty of sunken ships have been raised from the depths. The saucer section at the end of generations was still in one piece.

The way they kept mentioning it in the first episode.. I’d be astounded if it didn’t show up.

Talking of Battlestar when the Starfleet security ships were talking to their away team on Daystrom did I hear them call their crew-member Starbuck ?, I’ve rewound a couple of times but I’m still not sure.

Well yes, but…
The saucer crash landed, so could very easily have been recovered. It was able to operate independently so could still fly, and they could always pair it with an engineering hull from another Galaxy class.

Also, from stuff that we’ve not seen on screen but has been mentioned online.

LeVar has mention filming on a reconstruction of the bridge set, and posted this on Twitter.

No, they were just sending someone for coffee.

ISTR that one of the Spitfires in the Battle of Britain film was flyable because the commander of the station it was previously a gate guardian at decided it was an excellent project for his engineering staff to work on.

What might you do with your staff if you're a ship's former Chief Engineer now in charge of the Starfleet Museum in what is canonically a post scarcity civilisation?

I cannot help but think of a slimmed down Waynetta Slob when Vadic's on the screen
