It's all a pretty obvious nod to the current state of affairs in the USA.

I'm afraid I'm struggling again. 4th episode was a bit of a snore fest, as in I literally fell asleep watching it and had to rewind. Things need to ramp up. I'm not talking "pew pew pew". I mean, it needs to get interesting. We're nearly half way through and it feels like two episodes content has been spread across four. I'm concerned we'll get to the end of episode 10, and feel like a 2 hour movie has been told in about 7 hours.

It's not meant to feel, look or be like TNG and that's fine. Unfortunately it's not very Star Trek either, so far. Willing to stick with it for now, but it's been a disappointment, in my opinion.

Even bigger kick in the teeth is that Jonathan Frakes directed this one.

A dark sci-fi with elements of Star Trek thrown in and the use of occasional expletives to awaken the sleeping viewers.

My god, that last one was dire.

Picard himself nothing like the actual character of old. Every new character has some unreasonable hostility against him and then magically is friends because script needs it to happen. Romulans totally different.

I liked the old school romulan ship but a spanish speaking weapons hologram?

My predictions for the remainder holographic crew to satisfy diversity:

Lesbian chef (trans man identifies as lesbo)

Super camp toilet attendant

800000 Scouse midgets to polish the 40 million lights inside the ship

I think Ep 2 was the worst; 3 and 4 a bit better. Hoping it picks up a bit as I'm kinda watching it because it's Trek and especially because it's PS. It's better than most of the US scifi I've seen my wife watch but kinda hoping it picks up a bit and gets back to the"wow" of episode 1.

Quite negative results but I'm enjoying it. I bloody hope it doesn't get canned before there is an answer to it all.

My attention is flagging I'm afraid.

Not as good as I was expecting.

I have to agree. I'm sorry to say but I think Patrick Stewart is somewhat out of touch, and hasn't convinced me he remembers how to play Picard. Yes things have happened to Picard and he's changed. But his whole demeanor, the way he talks, moves and interacts.. it's off. Yes he's 80 years old now, but I don't think that really accounts for it.

It was already picked up for season 2 before broadcast.

Kind of agree... I've lost count of the number of times Picard seems to think he only has to ask for something, for it to be granted. Or he just has to appear and people know who he is, kowtow to him or what he wants.

HOWEVER... in TNG at the end, "his future self" was suffering from an incurable brain condition which caused all kinds of dementia like symptoms - and at the start of THIS series, they made reference to his showing signs of an incurable brain condition which causes same. So he may be acting Picard "different" on purpose.

But not difficult to predict when the special guest star was announced in the titles.

When he first appeared in this episode, I was wondering what need a post-scarcity society has for The Man From Del Monte.

The issue I took was that Hating the Federation as a whole is one thing, but Jean-Luc Picard should be a legend on that planet. He personally saved tens of thousands of people, and resigned his commission in disgust at the failure of the Homo Sapiens Only Club to come good on their duty.

His reception in that bar should be worthy of The Hero Of Canton.

yes As I said earlier, he’s more like J.R. Hartley than Picard. I know it/he is supposed to be different but there seems to be no connection at all. He could at least get his tin whistle out hehe

Same goes for the World he’s living in. It’s so far removed from TNG it could be 50 years before Kirk, not 20 years after TNG.

It’s more like a reboot. I’m not looking for a nostalgia fest either, just trinkets of reminders to make the connection.

All it’s doing for me at the moment is showing just how good the writing, acting and production of TNG really was.

Sounds like my hope of it getting better are going to be squashed tonight as well!

I'm quite enjoying the slow pace interspersed with moments of action. This week has been my favourite episode so far. I think Picard is a man who has been broken for so many years and we are seeing him get it together now he has a cause he can fight for again.

For a moment I thought Seven's small ship was the Delta Flyer.

I did like this episode more and see how the final scene is needed for the story but how does a old lumbering ship force a more agile ship into the atmospheric defenses?
