Can they not be arsed to put out one a week either?
I don't think the new series is due until the Masters snooker has been broadcast, otherwise it would clash with the final, so probably Sunday 26th.Just caught up with this and did not find it too bad. It's the first one I have seen with the new team and they did not irritate me as much as I thought they would. I did find it hard to believe they are still repeating some of the old CHM crap though. The failing hand brake in particular was groan inducing.
I must admit I only really watched it as I went to Nepal last summer about the time they were there and did a public bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara so did about half the trip they did. They represented that leg of the journey reasonably well though I did notice they seemed to head off the main road a couple of times so they could get stuck in mud. Its certainly a fairly hairy trip though and taking 9 hours to do a 120 miles makes you really appreciate the difference having good roads makes to travel times.

I would submit:
1. Arctic Circle (Norway) in winter - drive there from the UK. There's enough to see - some of the town's en route, the Oresund bridge, Atlantic Ocean road, Trollstigen mountain road (similar to Stelvio, and they did this in a summer challenge once)
2. £15K SUVs (everyone hates them - see if they can cope with snow)
3. This is the tough bit because the challenges can feel a bit forced but how about trying the Trollstigen in deep snow? Can winter/snow tyres hack it or are chains required? I imagine it could be perilous in the snow (it's usually closed in Winter). Or how about ice lake racing? I know that's been done but not in SUVs - maybe one will turn over? Or what about recovering one of them from sliding off the road with one of those elastic snatch ropes? If nothing else, flying a drone above them as they drive over the Atlantic Ocean road will make for lovely pictures.
Talking about TGT for a minute (as they seem to be directly competing now), I thought Seamen was a refreshing change from the usual challenges. Using a different vehicle really worked for me but I would have liked to have watched a companion programme which described the vehicle selection process, and the build of Clarkson's PBR. I imagine the producers could have two programmes almost for the price of one.
In those circumstances, then I expect the vehicles that they would turn up with would be something like this 1. Arctic Circle (Norway) in winter - drive there from the UK. 1. new-ish Qashqai/Sportage that "everyone" has
2. 10 year old Range Rover that you can get for the same money
3. New-ish Octavia with 4x4 "because Harris doesn't like SUVs"
Still, sounds good
Thought it was ok.
SWMBO decided to sit and watch (First time ever) for the scenery and she enjoyed it, as well as the presenters.
so all those whinging remember the TG audience was aimed at your average fan and female audiences not car nuts.
The end was a bit crap though!
Was better then the Prime special.

I enjoyed it. But I mourn the loss of motoring programmes. For a brief moment, we had TG and TGT both as car shows, both reviewing new cars, doing fast laps and the occasional race.
Now we have two travel shows where cars usually, but not always, feature. How long before they start giving cooking tips and looking at antiques?
Fortunately, we have a whole You Tube of cars to goggle at.
is top gear a travel/adventure based show now then? Do they do any studio stuff at all? Now we have two travel shows where cars usually, but not always, feature. How long before they start giving cooking tips and looking at antiques?

Would be pretty funny if so given how lawyered up they got about defending the format from CMH.

It does, but didn't Harris own a 5.0 S/C FFRR L322? I am sure he did as it was stunning in Green / Caramel.
And some others. He doesn’t hate SUVs because the racing drivers he desperately always wanted to be accepted by drive them but he does say he hates them because it’s on trend to publicly do so. He probably even has his own SUV step ladder. Cupramax said:

plenty of places to go for a TG special, or an hour long road trip similar to when CHM went looking for the best driving roads or supercars across France. One thing they haven’t done is 90’s super saloons for under 10k, could get some very interesting cars and drive them across Canada’s best roads where I don’t think top gear has been.
There’s also some truly perilous places like an expanded metcalfe trip to the Sahara, maybe tracing in the footsteps of the LRDF to Tobruk, a trek across Eastern Europe in communist cars, or perhaps drive the road of bones. Specials don’t always have to involve getting stuck in mud, the best one - Vietnam - was all paved roads and abit of water at the end
Other car’s that could be used for episodes are 90’s coupe’s for under x amount. Imagine a rover 220 turbo or fiat coupe squaring off against a 406 v6 and a Alfa Romeo gtv. Another is Rally hero’s on the cheap - Impreza v early Evo v celica gt4 or sunny gti-r

Out of interest have any viewing figures for the Xmas special been released?
Google doesn’t come up with anything.
i thought I heard they picked up a bit with the new line up.

The last season with the new lineup was higher than the MLB days, but the figures seem to be dropping off again.
The new season opener will be more telling though. All seasons seem to start on a high then tail off.
I'd be interested to know how all of the post CHM episodes have sold abroad. It was a big revenue generator for the BBC so could justify the big budget. It's now way down in the domestic ratings alone so you have to wonder how long it can justify a big budget?
