Harris was going on about a central driving seat being better for balance. But as soon as you out a pasenger in, the balance is messed up, whereas if you put a passenger in a different (2 seat) hypercar, the balance will be improved, by that (broken) logic.
Seems like CH didn't really know why they did it either. Personally, I think the only think that would make you look like more of a tool than sitting in the middle, would be if you were driving a Senna instead.

Last week was really good. I picked my nose through most of this week.
Not interested in the Mclaren. Didn't watch it.
Not interested in SIARFC. Didn't watch it.
The Rascal bit was fairly unimaginative. And whilst they pretended Chris and Paddy got it unstuck more than once, I suspect they didn't do it alone... Half watched it.

He used to live in a house that backed on to my parents place in Preston - after the Ashes win in 2005 there was a 3 day party at his. He did invite all of the neighbours out of politeness, and bought them all "thank you for putting up with me" presents.
It seems he started drinking at the Oval after the win, spent the night drinking at a hotel, went to 10 downing street, caused a bit of a ruckus, then went home to Preston for the party. He was still wearing the team blazer 2 days later.
My parents got to know him pretty well at the time, and although he was a bit of a party animal, he was always very polite and well spoken.
Or as well spoken as a Preston lad can be....
Here he is 'in action' back then, funny stuff. It seems he started drinking at the Oval after the win, spent the night drinking at a hotel, went to 10 downing street, caused a bit of a ruckus, then went home to Preston for the party. He was still wearing the team blazer 2 days later.

I really want a Dirty Rascal.
Same here - cracking looking thing. I really liked that. I wonder who did the conversion / body etc. It looked really slick, like a Tonka toy. Another great episode.

I watched the show again today because I didn't enjoy it on Sunday, but everyone else seemed to, so I went back to see what I'd got wrong. This time, I paid more attention, instead of picking my nose.
I still didn't watch the lap in SIARFC though.
Happy?

The comments must be by PHers. In reality though, does it really matter what channel they put it on these days?

He came across very well when he was on Desert Island Discs - rather different to his TV (particularly Sky One) persona.Or as well spoken as a Preston lad can be....

If what he says is true, it's a ton lighter. It definitely looks to the casual observer to have a lower Cd too.
I'd read 1430kg (McLaren) versus 1995 (Bugatti). But that is still a significant difference. In the Bugatti Chiron if you lift off north of 220mph the car ‘feels like you have smashed the brakes’ and starts to rapidly decelerate. Basically he points out that the Bugatti’s achieve their top speeds through shear brute force and power overcoming aerodynamic and drive train drag.
In the Speedtail first time he lifted North of 220mph the didn’t actually slow much at all. It just carried on north of 220. In his words it ‘slips through the air with a disconcerting lack of drag’
Two very fast cars with very different approaches to how they achieve their top speeds.
McLaren have been very clever with the Top Speed of this car I think. 250mph is an incredible figure, and having demonstrated its ability out of the box to repeat this speed over and over again they don’t need a silly high headline figure. They have said ‘it will be capable of 250mph’ and it is. Simple as.
Ps. They haven’t said what one will do absolutely maxed out though... so will be interesting to see what happens when someone tries and based on his review I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s quite a bit north of 250
I enjoyed it again.
Sure, it never stacked up if you analyse it, the smoke bombed Rascal, the stop to take in the scenery and the Rascal being so wedged, hidden help was a certainty. It all made the challenge a bit pointless. But it's fake TV and it happens all the time, don't pretend it doesn't and you have to buy into the fiction for it to entertain.
I enjoyed the McLaren piece.
Someone who has been on TV in a red car was dull as usual though Rom was funnyish.

He used to drink in my local and he’s a very personable and polite bloke. Certainly likes a drink but I never saw a bad side to him.....just a rather lively one. I kind of admire McLaren for not pointlessly getting into a willy waving escalation with zer Germans over the whole top speed thing. Bear in mind I don’t really care about super cars or whatever these are and will never have 2 mil sitting around to buy one with, but it is a genuinely interesting and different looking car.

I agree with the Rascal piece, much belief had to be suspended. (Especially when you can tell that the camera car was traveling on a perfectly good track just 2 meters to the right of the stream while they felt the need to drive through it / get stuck / bog down / make funny TV etc..Sure, it never stacked up if you analyse it, the smoke bombed Rascal, the stop to take in the scenery and the Rascal being so wedged, hidden help was a certainty. I think these two episodes are the strongest yet since the CHM era. I really think this presenting team is spot on.

I wonder how many speedtails will see their top speed? Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
