...also, is that the first time they've mentioned a former presenter by name, actually saying "Richard Hammond did this"? Or was there a Clarkson reference last week too?
I suspect that simple comment defused about five thousand outraged Tweets from people saying it'd been done before.ChocolateFrog said:

It probably says more about me but I would have preferred a straight up review and shootout with the Jimny and Duster, possibly against a used Defender of the same value rather than the stuff they did that wasn't that funny or new.
Have a look on YouTube - you can't go three clicks without seeing a Jimny video! It probably says more about me but I would have preferred a straight up review and shootout with the Jimny and Duster, possibly against a used Defender of the same value rather than the stuff they did that wasn't that funny or new.

Another great episode, with one notable exception: SIARFC - FFS WHY???????
I know. Absolutely nobody likes it. It’s just filler. fk it off. It’s even worse watching it being filmed. I went to watch the first episode being filmed and they tagged a guest on for a future episode (some YTer I’ve never heard of). It was even more tiresome seeing it being two or three times. It’s stale.
The rascal was quite entertaining though especially when Chris soaked Paddy.
Not 100% sure on Paddy; he veers from being a bit over enthusiastic to just being a tit.
There did seem to be genuine chemistry between them though especially during the out takes.

I posted earlier but in the top gear magazine he talks about the effect its light weight and extreme aero efficiency has on its top speed and acceleration when compared to the Bugatti.
In the Bugatti Chiron if you lift off north of 220mph the car ‘feels like you have smashed the brakes’ and starts to rapidly decelerate. Basically he points out that the Bugatti’s achieve their top speeds through shear brute force and power overcoming aerodynamic and drive train drag.
In the Speedtail first time he lifted North of 220mph the didn’t actually slow much at all. It just carried on north of 220. In his words it ‘slips through the air with a disconcerting lack of drag’
Two very fast cars with very different approaches to how they achieve their top speeds.
McLaren have been very clever with the Top Speed of this car I think. 250mph is an incredible figure, and having demonstrated its ability out of the box to repeat this speed over and over again they don’t need a silly high headline figure. They have said ‘it will be capable of 250mph’ and it is. Simple as.
Ps. They haven’t said what one will do absolutely maxed out though... so will be interesting to see what happens when someone tries and based on his review I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s quite a bit north of 250

The splashing was also set up - he wound down the window while the door was open so closing it would still result in a soaking. Pretending the Range Rover was quiet fooled nobody.
The window was down a moment before, distant shot showed his elbow out. Then it was back up and he wound down just in time to get soaked.Edited by LuS1fer on Monday 3rd February 22:43

Indeed but in a world where seemingly many people are happy to believe that Peter Andre actually lives in a big house, has staff, sells more than ten tickets to an event and isn’t just a salaried chimp dancing for change then like you I am more than happy and capable of pretending there isn’t a perfectly usable road with a crew on it. It’s like Vegas and most entertainment, don’t scratch the surface of you don’t want to see the total horror and grim desperation that lies beneath the veneer of the industry.

Does this really matter? Did it make many people laugh, irrespectively?Edited by LuS1fer on Monday 3rd February 22:43

No it doesn't matter at all, except to people on here who want to see "the script" To be fair - having done a few off-road type events myself, you don't need to have a film crew on you telling you to do that kind of thing, you can just do it anyway if you're with your mates, if you're that way inclined.

That's brisk. Where on earth did they do that run?
the vw test track it's actually a bit heavier than the customer cars will be too.
my money would still be on the chiron ss v the mclaren 0-180mph as the extra 500hp and lack of batteries + aero improvments vs the regular chiron

Just watched the first ep of the new series and really enjoyed it. I haven't laughed as much at an episode of TG for years, not since CHM left.
It looks like they've finally managed to get to know each other properly and you can see it in the footage. There was the odd promising moment in the last series but it was mainly forced. Not any more, you can see they're all genuinely enjoying each others company. About time too. I couldn't understand why most seemed to be dreading McG, Flintoff and Harris as the presenters, having been served up with the excruciating tumbleweed that were the Evans/leBlanc years previously. Putting two funny blokes and one who can be funny once he relaxes together seemed as good a starting point as any to me.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series at last now, rather than dreading it, phew.
