Enjoyed that.
DBX not a looker but neither is any other SUV.

They should have called it the Aston La Vista, baby.

Well done, now you've unleashed the full fury of the F1 geeks.

Back on topic I quite enjoyed last night's episode not exactly a classic but not bad considering the current filming constraints. I see there are less complaints about Paddy McGuiness's driving ability this week.
Assuming it was him behind the wheel whistle

Of course it was scripted 'drama'. Just like the Porsche and Bentley laptimes being identical. And just like CH&M did too.

Are the people who think this is real clicking on every "reset your payment details" email they get too?
So why do you think they lied about the laptimes? Yes, some bits are faked, but not all.

I don't think the vociferous defence of HFF is warranted after one post in a long thread called him "mediocre", but thanks for sharing that anyway...
Just giving the rather protracted discussion some context backed up with some hopefully objective academic research figures. For the record not defending Heinz-Harald vociferously or otherwise, but you're welcome even if the thanks came across as a bit sarcastic.

Quite.

There have been a few times when one of the others came within a fraction of a second of Chris Harris's time on track.

So I assume that either they weren't driving, or he wasn't.

Question: Which of the following are you watching?
a) A light-entertainment TV show
b) A factual documentary

some of the things they are doing seem genuinely dangerous esp for bbc h&s assuming they are doing them and its not just broken up footage.

wrong move on that quarry and you are off. sat on top of a car doing sharp corners wouldnt be so much fun if it rolls etc

I noticed they had freshly-graded berms all the way up

So you think that everything on the programme is changed/faked?

So you really think that, in spite of the odds being minuscule, the Porsche and Bentley had identical laptimes to 1/100th of a second, based on a bloke clicking a stopwatch? laugh

It doesn't spoil the show for me (CH&M did it all the time), but I'm just a bit staggered that the PH Top Gear 'defenders' would choose to die on this particular hill.

Unlikely with all the newly built edge protection you could see all the way up. I would suspect the chance of those cars rolling was pretty rare - yes both drivers were pushing on but they wouldn’t be taking unnecessary risks, I mean, it’s not like it was a real race where the result mattered.

Exactly. Given that the director had already decided the outcome (Paddy on the zipline, for maximum comedic value), there was no need for the risk of having either driver push at 100%.

I'd imagine the footage we saw was based on multiple runs (or run section-by-section), and then stitched together to make it appear like it was a real race. Hence the lack of any footage from distance, or tracking more than a corner at a time; and the disjointed editing between in-car, drone and trackside.

Sorry if I'm bursting bubbles here, but this is how TV is made (including CH&M Top Gear).

As soon as it was UK vs Germany the outcome was decided as you and others have said

I assumed everyone knew this, its why the final race wasn't for Paddy to beat Heinz but more get within 10 seconds, a spurious enough number that it could be possible

Send them both up the track fast enough for some rooster tails and some drifting on the safer corners and boom

Also from having been to that location I am pretty sure the road they used is the one you can race the carts down so it'll have numerous safety features to stop customers from routinely pinging carts off the side and down into the quarry

We all understand that its a TV programme and that it won't all be true, so don't worry you haven't pointed this out to us.

I sold my Ariel Atom to the Stig from German Top Gear. He told me about the CHM UK vs Germany 'race' and as you suggest the outcome was totally scripted. Ze Germans were not going to be winning on that day or this one!

It only surprises me that people are surprised

To be fair I am pretty sure CHM even hammed it up about that a bit, it was part of their shtick that they'd never let Ze Germans win, if the football game had gone ahead on the ill fated argentina trip something similar would have happened, Clarkson winding his window down to knock the ball in with his hand, apparently much to the amazement of certain PH'ers who would have been agog saying "Its just like Maradona, what are the chances"

Watched it last night on I player, not a bad episode

Not sure why they used the cars they did however, a DBS and Conti GT would have made more sense.
