I'll happily watch repeats of CHM Top Gear on Dave. Although I tend to lose interest when I hear the phrase "we'll have to modify our cars". I also like the programmes that the presenters have made individually.

I don't bother watching repeats of the current lineup's shows.

Dave rarely (if ever) show any repeats of the Evans-era Top Gear shows.

Apart from Harris, none of the current lineup have a "car background", so they lose credibility when they're trying to talk about cars, whereas CHM, Clarkson and May in particular, have backgrounds in automotive journalism. That. for me, is the difference. Top Gear ceased to be about cars a very long time ago, but at least Clarkson, Hammond and May made it entertaining.

The current lineup all look as though they're being forced to talk about cars against their will - Harris, as divulged by somebody who used to work with him at Autocar, is a miserable bugger. Flintoff is one of England's greatest cricketers of the last half-century, a genuine cricketing God, who seems to have been persuaded to have a career in media work. I always feel that he must have a very persuasive agent. McGuinness would be out of his depth in a shallow puddle, and seems to rely on being a loud Northerner, which the BBC seem to think is acceptable because he ticks a "diversity" box.

What we've ended up with is a horse designed by a committee.

Freddie seems to like cars and is probably a bit of a petrol head, I bet it took zero persuasion.

Overall I'd give it 3/10. If it was about anything other than cars I wouldn't watch.

The Chris Evans era was 0/10 and after a couple, I didn't watch.

Paddy McGuinness shouting 'BOYS!" and "LADS!" over and over again just isn't a very nice thing to listen to. And when he starts giving his considered opinions on cars and driving I want to curl up and die.

Other than that, umm, brill.

I thought he was awful on TG at first but I now think he is turning into a reasonable presenter. Only reasonable because just standing in front of a camera saying "And now this" isn't really his thing. His things are to talk about subjects he is passionate about and to do exiting stuff.

I know it was only a silly joke but I found it quite funny when he jumped into the Christmas tree wrap machine. laugh

Having seen an episode filmed, off camera the chemistry is much more natural and they do seem to quite like each other. It comes across very forced at times on the actual show.

Back on topic, the Christmas special was a bit st. Certainly not a patch on the old Christmas episodes.

i dunno if you're saying those things to me, or to the people who bang on about these points endlessly? I'm not saying i disagree with the points but equally i don't really feel they interfere with enjoyment of the show. Also I'm northern by the way - but even i think the eyup chuck ooo riiiight exciiiited thing is overdone a bit.
You're right, it is. I'm from 'The North' as well, no one speaks like that unless it's an act.
Guy Martin is pretty bad for it too. He seemed like a caricature of himself in his most recent series calling everyone boy 15 times.

Agreed

McGuinness brings nothing, just faux northern tttishness.

At least the other two can develop, Paddy just sits like a turd on a Hawaiian Pizza.
Nah, he’s the pineapple on pizza….doesn’t belong!

I don’t think it’s any secret that Harris is a grumpy sod. He’s always come across a bit like that.

I've enjoyed the few episodes this time round, not watched the Christmas special yet.

I watched it, with the missus 10 year old lad, it kept him entertained and I enjoyed it.

Interesting recent vid looking at the evolution - thing that struck me was how vivid some of these episodes are that are already 15-20 years old!

Yes, posted this on Tuesday.

I cannot wait for part two, this first one was excellent.

yep,

and while I know where he is from, it puts it on like a cloak of 'I'm from up north so I can act like a tt'

We are not all like that up here.

Its like a Hawaiian Pizza because, its a bit crap but hey its still a Pizza and I can eat around the pineapple, but I'm not going anywhere near it with that stinking turd on it.

It's amazing how worked up some of you are getting over a TV presenter.

My point was that he is northern and he is a tt.

I don't think that anyone thinks for a moment that he represents all of you.

Sorry, didn't mean to suggest that you did.

It was the 'fake northerner', I know he is from the north, but he uses it like a character he has made for himself and its really off-putting when trying to watch.

I can respect Harris, he can drive. The cricketer seems like someone you could have a fun day blasting about in cars with, but Paddy just throws it all out of the window.

My Doris, a filthy foreign type, can’t understand a bloody word that comes out of his gob. She also completely misses the innuendos and in jokes. She does like CHM though, esp May and Clarkson.

Main problem with top gear is it was Clarkson that made it great, nobody can review even a dull car quite like him. With just May, Hammond and say Harris it would have been pretty poor.

Problem with grand tour is none of their hearts are in it any more. JC just wants to get back to his farm and I don’t blame him.
