Thought it was a decent episode. Enjoyed the oval racing ex police cars.

Somewhat vaguely reminiscent of the Grand Tour episode where CHM travel across Nevada in motorhomes and sample different forms of US motorsport but just not done as well. I think it's clear the BBC aren't going for a car enthusiast audience anymore, very little detail is given on any of the cars they drive.

Quite enjoyed it overall though as I'm quite a fan of US car culture.

Wow Ramsey, Gino and Fred have let themselves go, seemed to have missed out the cooking in this episode but I guess it is just a road trip entertainment show.

Sorry but that was dire, switched off half way through.

It really has had its day now.

It felt to me like they were really stetching for material to er, stretch out to a hour. Would have been fine as a half hour or 20 min segment imo, but i was bored and channel hopping between the actual races (which was about 5min of footage total)

I liked the Donk racing cars, those looked fun.

Felt like a lot of filler and not very much which actually happened in the episode.

Ha ha, I’m certainly no ecomentalist TG hater or wokeist but a one star in the Telegraph seemed a little surprising, you could understand it in the car hating guardian perhaps.

Well the jury’s out and it’s still saved on my TiVo so I may get around to watching later based on the more positive commentary here.
The Guardian review was pretty on point tbh and agree with what most here in the thread think of the lineup.

'Its focus on car culture makes it better than Clarkson et al’s last series. But the driving show needs to address its Paddy McGuinness problem before it can become genuinely great TV'

We've been reading the same articles about TG not being what it was long before CMH left. Recycle the same article and change the name of the presenter. It doesn't matter who they get to host as the same complaints will still be made. TG will never get back to its best.

I'm lost when it was at its best as the moaning goes further back than I can remember.

Who would ever previously have thought a Guardian review of TG could be more on point than theTelegraph which was just trash.

I enjoyed it. Really whetted the appetite for travelling the US in a motorhome, and the prog introduced me to 3 genres of US car culture I knew nothing about, 2 of which were very interesting (not so the swamp racing, but loved the wildlife!)

The Donk racing - absolutely top respect for the building of those cars. I would have loved to have heard more from the participants. smile

Tbh the DT these days is a shadow of its former self. Seems to be run by woke wannabe journalists obsessed with sound bites and very little else.

It wasn't brilliant, but it was - for me, a petrolhead - way, way better than, say, Downton Abbey.

I'm afraid I could not disagree more. Clarkson et al had been phoning in their work for a long time, I'd argue that if they were put forward as presenters and their later body of work put forward as the 'new' top gear there would be many, many complaints.

Plus the spelling mistakes in the DT are approaching famed Grauniad depths.

Me too. I quite like PMG but can see that lots of other people will never be happy until he is gone.

I didn't realise that Chris Harris fractured his heel - thought it was 'just' a sprained ankle.

And actually had quite a lot of car content (including the age of the Renault faux pas, scenes at Goodwood and Longcross). I did hope they might make an spin-off series following the two chaps who set up a car dealership at the end of the last series but it appears that is not to be...

Entertaining nonsense as ever thumbup Loved the Donks and the Dirty30. Getting the RV stuck trying a 3 point turn in wet sand seemed a bit obvious though!
All 3 car numbers were a nice detail in the Dirty 30 race also.
