Yet somehow the Viper is 10000000x more desirable. It's also the bluest blue I've ever seen on a car. Nice one ViperPeteGTS smile
Thank you. They only made 4 of them in 2013 with no stripes. The common combination is GTS Blue with white stripes. I track the car too occasionally. It's amazing how nice the exhaust sounds with just an iphone.

Just caught up with a few missed TG episodes, and my main question is:

"How on earth do you get a celica to go slower than a Vauxhall Agila" Seriously, i can run faster than the last Agila i drove!!!

I think it was very much a sarcastic comment.

So the viper comparison was fixed as expected.

The cheap car segment was desperate stuff, it's embarrassing how poor that was.

Stunning looking viper.

I thought it was a good episode, I really enjoyed the banger challenge, easy watching.

Maserati was lovely too.

Sorry is it just me but, of all the cars that have come along since 2013, why is a Viper still considered one of the fastest cars - surely there are loads of quicker 4 x 4 forced induction cars?

I am not knocking the history and desirability of a Viper, but a rear wheel drive NA car from 10 years ago surely isn't the most modern comparison, especially when comparing it to a modern and new concept.

It was just a comparison against a very american car which everyone knows is pretty decent in a drag race. There are loads of faster cars but the point of the piece was essentially 'it effortlessly runs 10's in the quarter mile'.

Maybe, but the programme made out like the Viper was the current most unbeatable muscle car on the strip - which it isn't.

It didn’t, it made out it was a decent car with a massive petrol engine. Which is the point because that’s what your average TG viewer will relate to. An electric truck racing an eight litre sports car in a drag race? Must be fast if it beats that. That’s what the programme was making out.

It wasn't it was misleading.

The average viewer, or WAG of the viewer, will know little about the history and age of the Viper. The programme narrative suggested the Viper was "the thing" to beat, I remember it making out like it was an all time drag strip hero or similar. It may have been up there in it's day, but technology, weight and mechanics have all moved on.

A modern day AMG GT, M8 Competition or similar will have been a better comparison.

Oh for Gods sake, get a grip. Of course something 'supercar-ish' which will just get beaten is going to be selected, as they are for all such comparisons.

'Oh look, it's just been totally spanked by a LaFerrari' doesn't quite promote the same message.

And @Viperpete. Thank you for sharing your interesting TG experience with this little corner of the internet. Much appreciated thumbup

Seconded, folks take it all far too seriously.

Thanks to @viperpete too. Welcome to this little corner of insanity.

A M8 competition runs the 1/4 in the high 10's, it's not far off a Viper. Somewhat critically for the piece though it's a refined German coupe, not a big US muscle car.

They could have got a Hellcat or something to smash it but again that hardly fit's the point of the piece does it?

Best one of the series so far for me. It works so much better when they have 3-4 features.

That MC20 looks like a handful in the wet! Glad they got a decent dry lap off camera to show where it sits, although I think there was a lot of shouting "faster than a Veyron!" that would have been best left on the cutting room floor.

Cheap car challenge was a nice return to basics, although (weirdly, given the dragged-out nature of features this series) it tried to pack too much into one segment for me. It could have done without the overcomplicated and confusingly shot scrapyard race and had a bit more time to cover the cars in more detail than a blink-and-you'll-miss-it section between challenges. As others mentioned, it would be nice to spend a bit of time going over what's wrong and why they're so cheap. Top Gear used to be able to do this in an entertaining fashion; hell, half of car YouTube is built around taking broken old cars to garages and seeing how ridiculous an estimate you get.

It really does have a lot of promise with the current lineup. If they could just find a writing and editing team who don't think a script consisting of 35 repetitions of "come on!" is acceptable, it'd be there in my opinion.

I too thought it was odd to request a Viper for the comparison but, i'm not a producer and don't know what brings in viewers smile
A new Ram TRX would have been a better choice I think. AWD Supercharged truck, similarly priced, also very very fast...etc...

Having my car on Topgear though is sort of like a bucket list thing. I don't know anyone who's had their car on the show, or on any automotive TV show, so its a really cool feeling to see the car on TV. Now if I could just get Clarkson to sign the car.....

I do not think I could trust any programme to use my car sensibly, the thought of some of these idiots thrashing my pride and joy around a track and then giving it back to me with engine knackered and tyres shot is not for me.

They test cars by thrashing them around the track they are not paying for a set of new tyres or care about the long term effects of the abuse they give to car, sorry not for me

What makes you think any of that is true?

We had an agreed value on the insurance policy for the shoot if there was a total loss or damage and they even bought me a new set of tires at the end. Like I said, they were incredibly accommodating and friendly throughout the entire process. Very careful and thoughtful with the car, asked a lot of questions, always asked permission for a burn out, and they always kept me in the loop with what they were going to do and when. I can't really imagine myself or the car being treated better by the staff.

Most of the staff were "car guys" and just great people to be around.

You have been grossly misinformed IMO.
