I stumbled on auf weidersien pet earlier this evening on itv 4 , series 1 episode 1 .
I remember watching it first time round as I’m old and I think it’s just as good , although I am from the north east and I’ve spent my life in the building trade , I’ve set record so I’m in for the series !
I’m guessing it’ll not be everyone’s cup of tea on here , it’s a bit northern and blue collar .
I never realised that Timothy Spall (Brummy Barry) was actually a Londoner and Chris Fairbank (Scouse Moxey) was from Hertfordshire!I remember watching it first time round as I’m old and I think it’s just as good , although I am from the north east and I’ve spent my life in the building trade , I’ve set record so I’m in for the series !

I’m from East Yorkshire and the same as you, worked in construction all my life. Currently working in an office with a load of Southerners near Hull and none of them had watched phoenix nights. A Document controller confessed she had never been this far north before. In fact never further North than Luton.

Recently watched the whole of The Thick Of It for the first time.
Frighteningly how realistic it is even to this day given the current state of politics: political and administrative ineptitude best summed up by Malcolm Tucker "he's as useless as a marzipan dildo."
I haven’t seen any of veep but really enjoy Armando Ianucci’s output. The thick of it, in the loop and (especially) the death of Stalin are superb. I watched The Thick Of It more recently and enjoyed that too, it would have probably worked better for me when it was more current but yes you'd still say you could relate it to present day, or 'any day' politics.

nice to see they've left it alone, so far anyway, was half expecting swearing and some of the foreigner jokes to be cut and the page 3 pin ups on the lockers pixelated so not to offend the easily offended vocal minority.
Steptoe and Son on That's TV. Just watching the episode in which they divide the house in two with partitions and a turnstile. The episode in which the funniest line ever written in any sitcom, ever, was spoken, as they watched the TV, which was divided by a partition. They have a shared agreement in place. Harold wants to watch the ballet, his dad wants to watch a horror film. Harold - "I've got the law of contract on my side", Albert - "I've got the knobs on my side". Gets me every time. Followed after the house caught fire with "even the bleeding firemen had to to put pennies in the turnstile". They don't write this stuff any more, it's comedy gold.

Even those who aren’t massive fans surely can’t deny the pure brilliance on display in that episode.Edited by lornemalvo on Sunday 14th April 15:53
I'm rewatching the dvd boxset of The Wire. Think this will be fourth complete run through of it.
While googling some of the cast and production crew it led me to find that its origins was in Homicide: Life on the streets. That was always one of those programs that was always on in the background years ago but I never got into it. Is it any good / worth watching? If so I will try and get it on dvd.

It is good, a bit grittier than Law and Order and less formulaic. While googling some of the cast and production crew it led me to find that its origins was in Homicide: Life on the streets. Thank you for that, I have been watching the odd episode I have found on YouTube. I watched it back in the day and then numerous times on VHS, they never get old.Oliver Hardy said:
Allo Allo, never used to like it, think it is fab now.
I'd like to re watch Secret Army, which Allo Allo spoofed, but it's one of the few old British shows that Britbox / Acorn / Amazon don't have in the US.I've watched Enemy At The Door twice in the past 5 years. Excellent show, if a little dated. Based on the occupation of the Channel Islands in WW2. Hi De Hi's Simon Cadell extremely sinister as an SS officer. I liked the fact that there was no attempt at a German accent by any of the actors playing occupying soldiers.
