I was a bit worried that the format wouldn't work with Canada as it's a first world country which speaks English however it does seem to work quite well surprisingly. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Same here - I guess I hadn’t appreciated that Canada appears to have zero public transport - I wonder if that’s just the first leg or will it continue for the rest of it. - if so, 5k seems tough to me.

Jeez, that guy who offered the Asian couple a bed for the night! He looked like an artist's impression of an axe murderer.

Could someone explain how the two women got to the checkpoint 25 hours before anyone else? Either the programme glossed over it or I dropped off at a crucial moment.

This!

We even rewound the program in case we'd missed it.

I hope they explain the reason in the next episode as it certainly wasn't in tonight's.

Assuming the footage is vaguely chronological (in general) they appeared to be in Whitehorse well ahead of the others and fairly quickly set off north, although not all the way to check-point. Presumably they managed to make the last hop without too much delay, but was unusual for them not to be shown arriving, particularly so far ahead of other teams.

Can easily see some big gaps emerging if teams make poor choices on routes and/or have to work to rebuild funds. But that also happened in the first race as the eventual winners were over a checkpoint stopover behind only a couple of stops out.

Wasn't it that the two ladies didn't do massive detours, just got on with the journey?

One couple added 500 miles to their journey to clean a plane and get a trip over the glaciers.

Watched the first series the other day, really enjoyed that as it was so diverse. Different languages, cultures, modes of transport and choice of routes.

If this one is all about car sharing and hiring on the same route with the odd bear and moose, it's going to be a bit dull.

this week was a bit disjointed... didn't explain how they suddenly got to the end point! too busy showing the fun trips they went on...

Yes, and it looked like they’d left a lift that seemed to be heading straight to Dawson City.
Seems like this is a sightseeing promotion for the Canadian Tourist Boards.
I much preferred the first series too

Their hire car had to be left off at a town several hundred kms short of Dawson yet we weren't shown how they finished their journey, unless I fell asleep. At $160 per day it seemed quite cheap for a part of the world where everything must cost a little bit more. You could sleep in the car and just rent it for a month to complete the whole challenge - 30 days = $4800 but I bet you'd get it cheaper for an extended rental period.

That was poor editing last night. Nothing made sense.

They hired a car which initially said £160 at the desk, but that must have been per day as the final cost that flashed up on screen was either nearer or into the £400 pound mark (similar to the brothers final cost)

They got to Whitehorses, then got a lift to Carmacks with a gent (who joked about being able to lie to them) Carmacks is still over 350km and over 4 hours away from Dawson City with no explanation as to how they did it.

Anyway, not going to lose sleep over it, but either the editing is being done by a chimp or this really is just one big advert for Canada since none of them seem to be racing anywhere!

This one seems to be all about looking at Forests, looking at Glaciers, Bears coming out of the bushes, fluttering Canadian flags and aren't normal Canadians just lovely people....... ?

Missing out loads of things ( total spent, how did the two women get there, the breaking down Camper van etc ), not sure I'll stick with it

Didn't enjoy that, basically mugging off all the viewers that have any interest in the actual race part of it. The editing was shocking.

Not sure I'm keen on them eliminating last place either, as it stands there aren't likely to be impossibly large gaps between any teams, 5th could become 3rd then 1st in less than a week quite easily.

Interesting comparison for us watching this series as we realised we never watched S1 so we’re watching that at the same time as S3 weekly episodes.

The latest series is great in its own way and the scenery is stunning but there’s definitely a lesser quality to it being set in a single, English speaking first world country.

The real shame of it is I can’t see many other routes they could feasibly use for another series? Russias a no go, Africa might be risky, they’ve done South America…

Tend to agree; being in a single country that is largely English speaking does massively reduce the jeopardy, as does the largely linear route options; one road in, one road out...

But perhaps the producers just wanted to 'get back out there' with a relatively straight forward race/logistics?

Regarding other routes: As you say, difficult to see where else they can go, at least, without retracing part of a previous route: UK/europe start to somewhere in the far east would be S1 again, a lap of the med would have some of the dodgy bits of Africa!

Shame it was the brothers that were last; they actually seemed to be making progress with each other.

Would it not be possible for a team to buy a car for, say, £1500 to do the sections where there is no public transport and then sell it again, or is this against the rules? It would surely be cheaper than hire cars, taxis etc.
