No Han Solo, no star wars.

Real han solo, not that midget kid they tried to palm off on us.

Star Wars is in real trouble I think. I'm really shocked at how bad Disney have messed up.

They took what is probably the best franchise in cinema history and have shafted it. I'm not sure where they can go to get the magic back.

This video sums up my feelings quite well.

Odeon are advertising a 3 film night on 18th/19th December for episode 7/8/9, the other cinema chains will probably do something similar. I don't get the hate for the new 3 films, so I might just book this.

I don't 'hate' the new films, but for me they aren't right. I can't put my finger on quite why. Maybe it's the shoehorning in of characters designed to make kids buy merchandise (Porgs, BB8), maybe it's a bit because Daisy Ridley has one expression. I don't know.
I try and get excited but I just cant.

I shall see it of course, probably on opening night because it's better than listening to most of my friends (who know of which my obsession with the originals rules my life) constantly ask if I've seen it yet.

It's telling though, if you go into my Star Wars room (used to be called a dining room hah) you'll see very little of the new movies in there.

That's kind of them, they are giving attendees a good 3hr break in the middle to pop out for food.

laugh

That's considerate that is, not all cinemas would be so thoughtful.

I'm one of those who want a return of the intermission, but that's a bit much.

I read that somewhere in America they are doing a 27 hour marathon for every Star Wars film. Who the hell could stand that long in a cinema?

The smell in there with the type of people who would! laugh

I watched the prequels episode 1 on opening night. episode 2 about a week after it was released and didn't even bother with episode 3 in the cinema.

The sequels are following a disturbingly similar pattern tbh.

I love Star Wars but I'm afraid they lost me at TLJ.

Amazing how the OT got the formula so right but they've not been able to duplicate it since.

as a life long star wars fan, the problem is that when they try to do something left field, the fan base has no patience for it and the producers buckle.

I think the rumoured storyline of Snoke has met the same fate as Jar Jar being a sith lord/phantom menace i.e. they are either not quite brave enough to execute the original vision for the character and have bottled it after the backlash or, they want to package in a big surprise that nobody knows about and have left filming the sensitive scenes right till the last minute to limit risk of leaks.

I was not convinced at first but after reading Darth Plagueis by James Luceno on holiday this year which expands on Naboos importance and the Palpatine/Plagueis plan. Jar Jar being trained in the dark arts entirely fits the narrative and the subtlety of the Siths plan.

Final trailer

No idea what the hell the story is which is good at least as most trailers ruin films!

We have that here in Portugal! An intermission halfway through every movie.

At first I thought it strange and a throwback to my youth but now I kinda like it - quick chat, go to the shop, wc. Oh and the shop...everything is the same price as the supermarkets, no rip off prices.

Only downside is no IMAX or 4D near me, but otherwise the cinema I go to is new and very nice. And Portuguese subtitles for the films helps me learn the language so an education while watching too! That said, I tend to forget they are there if the movie is very good.

Trailer looks good, already looks like a lot of locations though which usually means a struggle to follow what’s going on.

I hope they aren’t simply going for big WOW locations to hide the fact the story is rubbish!
