We enjoyed them both
Edit: We enjoy all of the films in the saga tbh
I think we can get that you enjoyed them, some of my friends did too but the fact that you enjoyed them does not make them great films. I enjoy lots of crap films, I wouldn't be calling them great though as I know they aren't but accept them for what they are, crap films that I get enjoyment from. Edit: We enjoy all of the films in the saga tbh

Just watched the trailer and yes it looks impressive, but with modern effects they always do. The locations looked interesting to be, the "ice asteroid", the star destroyer apparently coming out of the sea etc.
Just boring eye candy, and yet another one of Abrams' 'Wouldn't it look cool if...' problem is, we have already done this scene in a Star Trek film, with the Enterprise emerging from the sea! Nothing original.Edited by AshVX220 on Tuesday 22 October 12:02
I am betting you will come back from watching it and say how great it was/looked. And then completely forget about it the following week. This seems to be the way of modern 'Blockbusters'

To be honest, they’re a nostalgia trip for me and I don’t care about switching my brain off to enjoy them-folk getting upset about space bombs in a fantasy film is laughable in itself!

Rewatched Last Jedi last night and it wasn’t as bad as my memories suggested.
The only jarring element for me was the pointlessness of Snoke.
What’s all the hate for it for?
Because the fanboys like me assumed snoke was Darth Plagueis, they even made Snoke the same race. The only jarring element for me was the pointlessness of Snoke.
What’s all the hate for it for?
When they popped Snoke he went cheaply, too cheaply.
in our heads Snoke was supposed to face off with Luke and we were expecting some sort of explanation right at the end of the film regarding Snoke which did not come.
What we ended up with was a mess as we have absolutely no idea who Snoke was or who trained him even though he was the main baddie for what, four hours of film ?
The whole story arc was left hanging in mid-air.

They destroyed the mystery behind Reys parents.
They had a 2mph ship race across the universe.
Fuel suddenly existed in Star Wars (wonder where their petrol stations are?)
The casino planet in general
Leila flying through space
Luke tossing the lightsabre and generally being a knob after the entire build up of the force awakens
Shirtless Kylo mind trance thing for ‘reasons’
The ‘comedy’ of Poe at the start
The bombers at the beginning dropping bombs and needing to be ‘above’ the other ship despite gravity not existing in space
Weaponising light speed
The pointless fight on the salt covered planet
Milking the sea moose thing
Phasma having a pretty lacklustre end
Snoke being pointless as previously mentioned
The whole captain not sharing the plan with her crew thing for ‘reasons’ then having to commit suicide
The whole Finn love interest thing
Rey going from living in a desert on her own to lifting 100 massive boulders in the space of what, a week?
The yoda appearance in general
That is literally off the top of my head. I’m sure there are more.
What about releasing the fathiers (Camel things) at Canto Bight casino. These running amok and smashing up those awful rich aliens fun was "worth it".
A wonderfully powerful scene. Beautiful CGI, a scene that totally fitted in with the film and really kept the pace going.
One has to remember the superb tension caused by the guards running over toward BB-8, but then the thrill and excitement as BB-8 was able to down all the guards by firing gold coins at them out of his firing gold coin 'belly' slot. The incredible juxtaposition of using the very gold that built the casino to bring down the security that protected it was so, very very deep and inspiring.
This is just one amazing piece of cinematic history TLJ gave us, plus these incredible, never to be forgotten places and characters:
Canto Bight
Sea of Cantonica
Fathiers
Cantonica,
Slowen Lo
slicer DJ
Temiri Blagg
there are of course, many, many more scenes just as good as this one.

new trailer thoughts
Rose looks fat
The shoehorned love interest between her and Finn, literally zero chemistry between them leading to one of the most awkward and cringe worthy scenes ever committed to film "saving what we love". In fact pretty much any scene with Rose in, awful dialogue and worse acting but apparently those who point this out are just racist, middle aged white men, threatened by an Asian female actress.Rose looks fat
Aaaaargh I'm getting angry all over again.

But seriously the Chinese couldn't stand this film, despite having their supposed "heroine" in. If you are going to include a Chinese character to target that market at least have them be well written and serving a purpose

Being able to act would also help, I think she probably competes with boy Anakin for the most wooden actor in Star Wars, at least that kid had an excuse that he was only 8. Seriously, who watched the screen test for Rose and thought, "YES, she nailed it".But seriously the Chinese couldn't stand this film, despite having their supposed "heroine" in. Finn is probably my favourite actor in the sequels, so very expressive and made me believe the character was real despite being giving not much to do in the grand scheme of things.
Rey was decent in TFA but seemed to go downhill in TLJ and put on about 10 kilos in between films which jars seeing as TLJ kicks off literally seconds after TFA ends.
Luke - Hamill was solid but his dialogue and character development could have been written by a 10 year old who had never watched a Star Wars movie but instead was given a synopsis of it on a post it note.
Poe again decent in TFA, turned whipping boy in TLJ for no other reason than they seemed to want to have an alpha male to abuse on screen so they could deliver a "political message".
Purple Hair lady - So good I don't even remember her characters name. She shouted at Poe a lot and kept her really clever plan secret. A plan which pretty much amounted to make a run for it at 2mph while being used for target practice by the entire First Order fleet and being responsible for 99% of the Rebels getting wiped out in a turkey shoot. Remind me why her plan was better than Poe's again? Oh yes that's right because "girl power".
Leia - All due respect to Carrie Fisher (RIP) but she was way to ill to be in these films. It pained me to watch her, it just looked like it was a struggle for her to get through some of her scenes. Would have been kinder and made more sense if she was killed in TFA rather than Han or better yet they both went out together.
