I bet if you parked that red Tribute that was on B&C, in a street, festooned as it is with Ferrari badges, over 75% (if not higher) of people walking past would think it was a real one....only car nerds would spot it wasn't a real one. The percentage would be lower of course if it was started up for the public, as even the car-uneducated would likely then realise that something was not right laugh
I had a Tribute 250 SWB on a Z3

and also a 250 GTO replica / tribute / homage I didn't put F badges on either of them, without badges the questions came thick and fast, with badges most people just smiled knowingly biggrin

The badged one here on the right was a customer car, mine on the left.

I saw a chap with a Toyota MR2 / Ferrari Dino copy a while ago. The plate on it was far too new for a Dino, so I said nice car, what is it though? He said a Ferrari Dino. I said it can't be a Dino looking the reg on it, he conceded and said, ok it's an MR2.

Maybe I was a bit over the top asking him about it, but I think rule number 1, don't leave the original plate on it! Number 2, don't actually say it's a Dino, anyone can check what it is! It did look ok though.

Your mistake was not telling him the Dino wasn't actually a Ferrarismile

That's very true! I should have! biggrin

I just looked it up as I remember the reg, it's on a 90's J plate (with the end three letters DNO) and it's a 1998 car.

Years ago when Pistonheads used to meet in Virginia Waters car park I was looking at a replica D-Type. Chap strolled over, and asked if I wanted to know more about it so assuming he was okay to chat to I asked what it was based on. It's a D-type he replied quite indignantly. Yeah, I can see that I replied but it's not a real one so I just wondered what it is, I said. Finally he conceded that it was a Lynx or a Realm or something (it was metal but I can't remember, it was 20 years ago). I thought what a knob coming to a petrolheads car meet and not thinking anyone would spot a replica.

Was he a youngish guy.....?
Must have been the same time (early 2000's) that a very good one, that even had nice patina, turned up at one of the Ace Cafe nights, and in the dark it was very hard to tell, if it was a Lynx or a real one. Guy was early 30's I'd say, and I assumed it was a Lynx, as it was so good, but when I asked him, he said it was a D-Type in a similar fashion.

A Lynx is a step above a donor car based replica isn't it?

Great looking cars.

And on the topic of Lynx D-Types, they are my absolute dream cars.

I was up there Tuesday, it was mad in Thornton Le Dale itself and the industrial unit was equally chaotic. Dropped off some of my late father in laws motorbike collection for the May auction. Saw Derek briefly and Dave seemed a bit up against it.

I can imagine the folk of Thornton Le Dale breathed a bit of a sigh of relief when they moved stuff up to the unit because for a Tuesday lunchtime the whole village was just rammed with people and parking nigh on impossible
Would it be cheeky to ask what the bikes were?

I guess the point is being honest about what a car actually is. I'd love to say I owned a Lynx. cloud9

Not at all.
There was 8 I think in total (I let him indoors deal with it as it all went up on transport) and I'm 99% sure its these...
61 Thunderbird, 61 Triumph 6T, 62 twenty-one 3TA, NSU Quickly, 65 Triumph Cub, 68 BSA Starfire, 69 Triumph Trophy and my favourite the 74 Honda G5 (if I could ride I'd have claimed this one!)

Nice.

Starfires always appeal for some reason but I've promised myself never to be tempted by a classic Brit again. In which case, it would be the Honda for me too.

There are more, which aren't being sold just yet, including a 99 VFR. Small steps for now.

Humm.. the BSA Starfire eh! I had my heart set on one of those back in 1972. Several months before I was 16, I put a deposit down on one without telling my parents - City Motorbikes in Greenford. Then without any notice they increase the age at which you could ride a 250 on L plates increased to 17. All I ever got to do was sit on it, never got to ride it frown The chaps in the shop were very understanding, and sympathetic and gave me my money back.
I spent some on an electric organ and amp and the when I was 17 I bought an MG. I suppose in hindsight it worked out well because I formed a band and we had great fun and I have great memories of driving in my MGA.
Would still love to ride a Starfire though... wink

First shop on the right after you crossed over the River Brent coming from Ealing.
I had family who used to live around the corner from it, literally about 40 yards up the road from the shop.

You've git it... Used to love it in there, until they changed the bloody law! frown
Made worse because I was one of the youngest in my year so some school friends in my class got their bikes!

My late father in law was a bike hoarder, these have been stored for several years after he passed. He was quite a stickler for never running them in the wet etc and my mother in law would often find them in the house biggrin. Quite the character he was. Mother in law has finally conceded that he’d have wanted them to be ridden and loved like he loved them. The auction will be difficult and she’ll watch online with my husband, but it will be nice to see them go back on the road hopefully.

The 99 VFR that’s still here is like it just rolled out of the showroom. From memory it has something like 1800 miles on it, has never seen a splash of rain and is like new in every way. My daughter has had her eye on it for a few years but realistically wouldn’t use it and none of us ride. No rush to get rid of that just yet but depending how the sale goes we might send it and some other bits up there again.
