The number plate got to me as well, but the plus 2 bugged me for another reason and that was the name of Peterson on the door, I thought it looked a tad cheap.

I know he explained the reasoning behind it but still...
I thought it tacky.
Much rather have a small plaque inside

Does the owner have to pay for the collection/return of his car if it doesn't sell at auction?
Collections come at a cost. I suspect that cost may be higher for returned vehicles hehe

No way will the ex-Ronnie Petersen Elan get anywhere near £60k.....
Surprised Derek didn't say his prices were a bit hopeful.
I'm sure he said it to camera, when he was arranging the ramps to put them on the trailer.

Ah, I must have missed that.

Lotus bloke had an ego the size of Yorkshire. Totally unrealistic ideas if what his cars were worth. The Elan at £44k I'd have bitten the buyer's hand off. Next auction it made £28k which was still strong money.

Bloke who bought the TF (agree, black is not the colour) thought he was somebody important in Fowey. Another ego.

Loved the ERF, cheap for what it is. Bravo for putting it in the haulage company colours and keeping it on the road.

As others have said the +2 did well to get to £44K - the owner should have taken that. As the next attempt proved!

The "Ronnie Peterson" lettering would have looked better on the window IMHO.

I still love the programme even though some sellers seem to have unrealistic expectations - that just makes it more entertaining!

For a counterpoint, I thought the Lotus guy was clearly passionate about the marque and his cars...he might have been off in his valuation, but many people are when it comes to cars that were pride and joy. I'd have paid extra for Ronnie Peterson connection, one of my racing heroes!! Also thought the couple who bought the MG seemed like a lovely couple. Intersting how we see things differently. I didn't see ego in either of then, well certainly no more than in any other...or perhaps it was overshadowed by old Degsy's massive ego. That shines through entertainingly in every single episode smile

And someone (or multiple people) were clearly of the same mind as you for it to get bid to £44k in the first auction.....which is not far off double what a similar condition Plus 2 would go for......!

How much would Mathewson charge them when it doesn’t meet reserve? It’s seems like a huge waste of money.
I do love watching it and have a great respect for the company, but there are some cars which you really don’t want to selling there.
This coming auction has an Alfa GT Junior in, with what looks like a very low expectation price on it. It wouldn’t surprise me if it sold at that price too, if the vendor is not on the ball.

Seen a couple of ads recently for +2s at £30K and more. May be they're selling, maybe not.

The chap selling the Lotus, may have been very optimistic in his valuation, but in my opinion didn’t come across arrogant in any way. He did have a lovely collection of cars and seemed a genuine enthusiast.

The couple buying the MG TF, looked liked they were going to have a lot of pleasure out of the ownership, good for them.

Looking at the website, £48 entry fee. (plus whatever they've charged you for collection).

Of course, there will be movement of fees at both ends to try to get a sale agreed.

This was also my interpretation. Good luck to them all, the TF was a lovely wee thing, I'd love something like that but fear my 20st bulk might somewhat dwarf one... smile

He looked a little familiar to me, the Lotus owner. Perhaps worked at or was a partner at Paul Maty Lotus Specialists near Bromsgrove? I spotted the awful number plates too. frown

I have been to visit Mathewsons smile I went on Sunday to the TLD original place (which still has a few cars outside, but nothing that really grabbed my attention) the old showroom just has merch in it now & a couple of small cars, one is an Austin 7 and there's a Mathewsons van in there like the one from Dad's Army. The main warehouse round the back had the doors open but it's closed the public (I think that is the museum / where Derek keeps some of his own cars)

I saw Derek washing a Mini outside there, but I didn't get to say hello as he was mobbed by people asking him things.

I also went to the Pickering site on Sunday, but it was closed. It re opened yesterday for viewing for their upcoming auction. So I went back then (you sign in and they give you an orange high vis jacket. It was bustling in there!) I saw Jack who was running around doing stuff, so I didn't want to bother him. I spoke to a couple of ladies who are on the show and they were very friendly, to be honest everyone there was!

All in all there was plenty to see, and they have two massive warehouses at Pickering now, the original one has cars and bikes and other bits in (in a separate room to the cars) I was walking around taking pictures for a couple of hours, both places were packed solid!! (I might put some pictures up on here if I get chance) They've got some great cars in there! and the next auction is their biggest ever one with a thousand lots!

If you are thinking of viewing or looking to buy something, or maybe just want to have a good look round, give them a visit I say it's worth it smile
