Next Bond is a black girl
Discussion
I'm in two minds
On the one hand I'm relieved that its "007" and she's not meant to be "James Bond" (or would that have to be Jemima Bond?). I'm not sure my head would cope with the lack of continuity there
But I'm slightly concerned that it simply won't be James Bond. Instead won't it just become a somewhat more generic spy film? I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and go watch it, but for me part of the enjoyment of the films is the links back to the ones of my youth. Will be interesting to see how they try to capture that essence while taking the franchise forwards

It's no secret that the plot involves Bond having retired from active duty - hence 007 as an operator reference has been re-assigned. Bond as a character hasn't been replaced. If we're to get into whether the lead in the franchise should be male / female / white / black - tbh I don't care, if they're a good actor. The thread title reads like the start of one of Donald Trump's angry tweets though, unfortunately - and we know what direction that normally takes.
The media seem to have made a story out of something without thinking about it. In reality, it's no different to the more active role Moneypenny has had in recent films, with more female field operatives.
I'm a massive Bond fan, and I'm open to the idea of significant changes - but so long as Michael and Barbara are at the helm, it isn't going to deviate from the norm too much (because they appreciate some of the audience are somewhat set in their ways), so anybody getting their panties in a bunch about a female 007 (NOT a female Bond), can relax.

Well, you don’t know me but I’m as far as I can be from Donald Trump.
Having said that, I just think this is steering too far from Ian Fleming’s source material. I could not care less about the fact that new 007 (not Bond, you guys are right) is girl and black, but to me it’s just like making him German. Or Italian, why not, driving around in a F8 Tributo.
A travesty? Definitely, but not because it’s a black girl.

Another article I read earlier said to the effect that "a scene early in the new film shows M in his office saying "come in, 007" and in a popcorn-dropping moment, it isn't Daniel Craig, its a young black female"The media seem to have made a story out of something without thinking about it. Well that's hardly popcorn-dropping then is it?
And yes, I'm sure its a little plot point but it will get resolved by the end of the film and the next 007/Bond actor will be a late 30s/early 40s age white man ready to pick things up where we left off.
Bond films are generally a bit crap anyway, all down hill since Moonraker and Roger Moore in his pastel leisure suits.
Seems everything is getting a female go, Doctor Who, Ghostbusters and now apparently James Bond, with a headline set to set the internet off wibbling about it, JB retires, his 00 number gets re-assigned and he comes back out of retirement, seems pretty simple to me.
I am fine with it, as long as not everything has to go to the opposite gender for the sake of it, like every advert seems massively contrived to fit in all the different racial groups in and it seems a bit forced.
