Next Bond is a black girl
Discussion
Hmmm, the story does appear on various news sites now. Not sure how I feel. Initial reaction is negative, I would have to admit and that is based upon the actress herself, which is admittedly unfair and based upon not knowing her, since Charlize as someone has mentioned, would peak my interest. So too would Thandie Newton. I could see either of them in the role. So Lashana has some 'work' to do to convince me.
That said, while I'll be saddened to see James Bond retire, if he must do so, then seeing a 007 Agent continue is great.

I'm going out on a short limb here. That said, while I'll be saddened to see James Bond retire, if he must do so, then seeing a 007 Agent continue is great.
This isn't the end of James Bond 007, once Daniel Craig finishes this, the next James Bond film will again feature a white male about 40 years old in the first of a 3-5 film deal.
This is one actress playing a role in this film where she is no doubt a newly-promoted 00 agent asigned 007. It won't last beyond the end of the film.

Bond films are generally a bit crap anyway, all down hill since Moonraker and Roger Moore in his pastel leisure suits.
Seems everything is getting a female go, Doctor Who, Ghostbusters and now apparently James Bond, with a headline set to set the internet off wibbling about it, JB retires, his 00 number gets re-assigned and he comes back out of retirement, seems pretty simple to me.
I am fine with it, as long as not everything has to go to the opposite gender for the sake of it, like every advert seems massively contrived to fit in all the different racial groups in and it seems a bit forced.

Why is it there seems to be the need to change characters like this, if a film is good it's good, doesn't matter who plays what, but why change genders or any other characteristic, have the character change attitudes to fit in with modern inclusions, recognise and respect them, but don't fundamentally alter what you already have (and yes I recognise this is 'only' an agent number reassign) make a new film / use the original to market the spin off / introduce the new agent, have a different double O number for the new character and if it is a strong film it will do well in its own right, then no one is going to think these changes are being forced through.
