This fella has a very dry delivery style which can have you nodding off, plus he doesn't rewatch stuff, relies on memory and gets stuff wrong, but it's a list to get you chatting at any rate.

Silent Running is a great film, it does seem to pull at all the emotions.

Honestly find Aliens a better and more "re-watchable" film.

Can someone pop the list up as text, I can't be a*sed to watch a talking head on You Tube but I do love a list with suggestions that I might not have seen.

Annihilation.

Bonus points for having the very lovely Natalie Portman in it.

Runaway
The Abyss
Gattaca
The Fantastic Voyage
Aliens
Rollerball (James Caan)
Prometheus
Terminator 1&2
The Andromeda Strain
Star Wars eps 4,5,6
Blade Runner
The Last Starfighter
The Thing
Upgrade
AI
The Forbidden Planet
Total Recall (arnie version)
Wall-E
Alien
THX 1138
The Outer Limits (a specific 1hr episode)
Moonraker
The Matrix
Star Trek the [slow] motion picture
2001 a space odyssey

Some good films there, but some cheating in defining a movie top 25 which contains an episode of a TV programme and also lumps 2x Terminator and 3x Star Wars films into 2 slots.

ETA - above is in order 25-1

This one specifically excludes big blockbusters. From 8 to 1:
Starship Troopers
The Forbidden Planet
Soldier
Screamers
Edge of Tomorrow
Enemy Mine
Stargate (movie, not TV)
Babylon 5 (movie, not TV)

I wouldn't say it's my favourite sci-fi film, but Oblivion is worth a watch.

How does the pantomime that is Moonraker make the list?
It’s a pretty mediocre Bond film, and not very sci-fi at all.
The inclusion of the Shuttle fleet and an evil lair in orbit is always acknowledged as EON desperately trying to cash in on the whole Star Wars thing.

ore of his lists keep popping up for me, I've gone throigh a few and seen films I've not been aware of that are now on my radar. Currently going through tech noir and another one, watched these today.
