Daring drivers from around the world test their limits in custom cars on the biggest, baddest automotive obstacle course ever built. In this new original Netflix competition series, driving prowess, mechanical ingenuity and emotional resilience will be tested in this open invitation, build and race tournament. Many will compete but there can only be one Hyperdrive champion.
First episode is on the 21st of August, unsure if that's US region only. I suspect it'll be awful but it might just be so awful that it's worth watching.

Mentioned seeing this trailer in The Netflix thread but I think most missed it.
ITV did a similar (much smaller budget) show a couple of years ago, it was crap.
I’ve got a feeling this will have great potential but will end up being crap.
Apologies, totally missed that in a quick look over the topic and my search for "Hyperdrive" obviously yielded nothing useful because the PH search feature is awful.ITV did a similar (much smaller budget) show a couple of years ago, it was crap.

Watched the first couple and this is whilst it is definitely very cheesy and extremely OTT flag waving American I am strangely quite liking it. I am however making it watchable by skipping forward through all the presenting bits and gratuitous personal backstory segments. There's maybe
30 minutes of watchable car stuff in 45 min.
It is definitely an odd concept and the set up seems to massively suit drift cars / drivers so not sure why they bothered putting a handful of clearly drag cars in there. Watching a few of them nearly kill their engines in the water hazard is also a bit painful.
It may not be everyone's cup of tea but I suppose it is at least big budget car TV and that is a rare thing.

Watched part one - as everyone’s said, it’s massively cheesy and the presenters are annoying (why is Michael Bisping there?)
The sad story and Charlize Theron visiting the girl in Soweto was a bit out of place. And she rocks up in a knackered e30 after her dad sold his tow truck to ship it to the states.
Come on! Why do tv companies feel the need to put a backstory on everything they do?
I’ll watch it as and when but I think it’s gonna take a while.

I thought it was bloody brilliant to be honest. Absolute arsing about with cars, fairly grass roots, loads of boost and engine swapped cars, mad commentators. I mean there's a 50 meter tall balance scale, it's never going to be F1 serious and it's all the better for it. Brilliant TV and a pleasure to see something that's about noise, smoke and the occasional car crash.
Didn't think I'd like it but after watching a couple of episodes it's strangely watchable. The sob stories that half the competitors have actually give the competitors a bit of relatability - I guess it's the car equivalent of X-Factor.
The whole thing looks like it's been rendered in a video game and the challenges are very video-gamey too.

Yep, oddly watchable... up to episode 6, it’s good to have on whilst doing the ironing or the washing up.
The cars look amazing, the set looks fantastic. They clearly had some Wonga to spend and it looks great visually. It’s nice too that the contestants are from around the world not just a bunch of Americans and appear to be very supportive of one another.
The hosts are a bit lightweight mind, lots of ridiculous whoops and stuff, but I can see beyond it.

Persevere with Ep 1, get through Ep 2, and it starts to get really watchable as the challenges get harder. A mix of decent drivers, interesting cars 1 massive tool with a big wallet car......the door banger, instant hate for them!
Upto Ep 6 and enjoying it.
The old american guy in Ep1 (i think) that had won the most amateur racing titles in the USA, racing for years, etc etc...... he was good

that was weird, no way a family who play with race cars are the poor! The sad story and Charlize Theron visiting the girl in Soweto was a bit out of place. And she rocks up in a knackered e30 after her dad sold his tow truck to ship it to the states.

Not terribly bad actually, cheap trashy fun, but they need to have a little think about who they think the audience is, and leave the virtue signalling pc claptrap at the door.
