This one genuinely surprised me when she turned up.
that's a really good one! Not seen the show, if it's a guest star or a cameo, some are just posting guest leads.

Ben Kingsley in The Sopranos

From the same era Jay Mohr had a TV show called Action! about a Hollywood producer that featured a load of cameos, I think Keanu Reeves was one

Apparently Sigourney Weaver and the actress who plays Mrs Tishell are old friends

I think at the time, Johnny Depp was the most surprising.

I reckon Liam Neeson as god is the modern equivalent.
Johnny Depp on the fast show?

What was the Liam Neeson one in?
Suit you sir

Neighbours can beat all this. Literally have had minor celebs just ring on the bell asking for directions.

The Pet Shop Boys rings a bell (excuse the pun).

Michael Palin just turned up on Home and Away, said one thing and left IIRC.

The only surprising one i can think of is Ross Kemp in the boot the Renault twingo 133 on (good) top gear. Wasn't expecting that.

Or Sienna Miller in the glovebox of a Skoda Yeti

There's been plenty on Big Bang Theory.

Can't remember most of them but.

Steven Hawking.
Stan Lee
Some Star Trek actors.
Carrie Fisher
The Tesla bloke
Nathan Fillion
Voice of Leonard Nimoy and his DNA on a napkin ,perhaps.

Lots more.....

I think the strangest and most depressing cameos are the ones in which De Niro, Joe Pesci et al star in TV ads. They must be paid a fortune but how much money do they need?

It's not a cameo, but the Dead Pool being mentioned reminded me that Jim Carrey is in it for a tiny scene as an armless Elvis impersonator.
