The night shots of wolves were amazing, the detail of their fur etc is ridiculous.
And I've been following the Iberian Lynx numbers and project for years as it came up in my MSc and that footage was just brilliant. Given a lot of money and no responsibilities Iberian Lynx in the wild would be very very high on my list of things to see. Great that the numbers have recovered so strongly.
We live in The Algarve and have seen 2. They come quite close to the houses out in the sticks. All are tagged and if you report a sighting they can tell you where it was released based on colour of collar. They are very beautiful creatures and apparently drive foxes from a territory so can have a net positive effect on common prey. And I've been following the Iberian Lynx numbers and project for years as it came up in my MSc and that footage was just brilliant. Some where like that I would have my one trail cams out. All I get here on camera are hedgehogs and cats and foxes.
so far a common genet and 3 mongoose (mongeese/ mongooses?) on our terrace plus apparently a wild boar nearby but never seen that. Maybe DA and his camera crew need to pop over.Gameface said:
fking scum. I'd torture them without a second thought.
The poachers aren't really the ones to blame though. As a general rule they're desperate, poorly informed and just trying to get by and support families etc. Often migrants too so it's just the equivalent of getting a job in a carwash over here. It's just what they do to survive without understanding the wider consequences. That's all a generalisation but it's largely true, the people funding the trade and buying the goods, the people smuggling it in vast quantities into China etc, the rich folks buying dodgy ivory goods and animal skins on the black market for extortionate prices. All those people Know it is wrong and are informed and heavily profiting from it. The poachers make pennies and risk their lives regularly.
It's a st thing all round but it needs action from governments and influential people and needs awareness spread in countries that still don't understand what they're doing.
